The Syrian al-Waṭan newspaper confirms what the “Wall Street Journal has uncovered about the secret visit of an American delegation, and reveals that Damascus refused to discuss the American sanctions over Syria before the matter of the American withdrawal is addressed.
The Syrian al-Waṭan newspaper reported from insightful sources that what the Wall Street Journal published about the secret visit by an American delegation to Damascus some time ago is true, and the newspaper pointed out that two officials have visited Damascus in August this year and have met with Major General ‘Alī Mamlūk, Director of National Security Bureau in his office.
The sources added that the two American officials, Roger Carstens, and Kash Patel were discussing a wide range of matters including offered and requests. They were surprised by the stance of Damascus, as it does not negotiate, nor does it cooperate with Washington before the American withdrawal is addressed since Damascus was adamant about the withdrawal of the occupying American forces from the East of the country and showing true gestures for this withdrawal from the land.
The sources of the Syrian al-Waṭan newspaper also revealed that this is not the first visit by such a high ranking American officials to Damascus, as before their visit there were three similar visits to Damascus during the last weeks and years.
According to the sources Damascus was adamant about the withdrawal of the occupying American forces from the East of the country and showing true gestures for this withdrawal from the land and likewise refused to discuss the matters the American sanctions upon Syria before the matter of American withdrawal from the Syrian lands is addressed.
Also, according to the sources, the two officials tried to gain cooperation from Damascus about the matter of American “kidnapped” personnel, but Damascus upheld its position that the withdrawal has priority.
The Syrian newspaper cited its sources that Damascus is cautious about these American visits, as it does not trust them, nor their foreseeable results. Thus confirming that the Syrian leadership is aware of the effect of the American lobbies on the American presidents, their decisions, and overall policies.
The American Wall Street Journal newspaper reported Monday night that a White House official recently took a secret visit to Damascus, and held a meeting with the American government.
Based on the members of the administration of American President Donald Trump and other insightful sources about the negotiations the newspaper mentioned that deputy advisor to the American President Kash Patel, who is a leading official on the matter of counter-terrorism in the White House have visited Damascus at the beginning of this year to hold a secret meeting with the government of Syrian President Baššār al-Asad to achieve the release of 2 American citizens believed to be held by the authorities of the country.
The sources did not reveal which officials Patel met, but it made it clear that negotiations went on in order to reach “an agreement with al-Asad” leading to the release of the independent American journalist Austin Ties, who had previously served the marine corps and later disappeared while covering the developments in Syrian in 2012. Likewise the [release of] Syrian American Māğid Kamālmāz.
In its report, the newspaper pointed out that this visit is the first one by such a high ranking American official to Syria for some ten years.

صحيفة الوطن السورية تؤكّد ما كشفته صحيفته “وول ستريت جورنال” عن زيارة سرية لوفد أميركي، وتكشف رفض دمشق مناقشة العقوبات الأميركية على سوريا قبل مناقشة ملف الانسحاب الأميركي
نقلت صحيفة الوطن السورية عن مصادر مطلعة أن ما نشرته “وول ستريت جورنال” عن زيارة سرية لوفد أميركي إلى دمشق قبل فترة صحيح، وأشارت الصحيفة إلى أن المسؤولين زارا دمشق في آب/ اغسطس الماضي واجتمعا باللواء علي مملوك رئيس مكتب الأمن الوطني في مكتبه
وأضافت المصادر أن المسؤولين الأميركيين روجر كارستين وكاش باتل ناقشا سلة واسعة من المسائل حملت جملة من العروض والطلبات، وفوجئا بموقف دمشق ذاته بأنه لا نقاش ولا تعاون مع واشنطن قبل البحث بالانسحاب الأميركي، حيث أصرت دمشق على انسحاب القوات الأميركية المحتلة من شرق البلاد وظهور بوادر حقيقية لهذا الانسحاب على الأرض
كذلك كشفت المصادر لصحيفة الوطن السورية أن هذه ليست الزيارة الأولى لمسؤولين أميركيين بهذا المستوى الرفيع لدمشق، حيث سبقت زيارتهما 3 زيارات مشابهة إلى دمشق خلال الأشهر والسنوات الماضية
وبحسب المصادر، فقد أصرّت دمشق على انسحاب القوات الأميركية المحتلة من شرق البلاد وظهور بوادر حقيقية لهذا الانسحاب على الأرض، وكذلك رفضت مناقشة العقوبات الأميركية على سوريا قبل مناقشة ملف الانسحاب الأميركي من الأراضي السورية
كذلك حاول المسؤولان، بحسب المصادر، كسب تعاون دمشق في ملف “المخطوفين” الأميركيين لكنها تمسكت بموقفها بأولوية الانسحاب
وأشارت الصحيفة السورية نقلاً عن مصادرها إلى أن دمشق حذرة حيال نمط هذه الزيارات الأميركية لجهة أنها لا تثق بها أو بنتائجها المحتملة، مؤكّدة أن القيادة السورية تدرك تأثير اللوبيات الأميركية على الرؤساء الأميركيين وقراراتهم وسياساتهم العامة
ونقلت صحيفة “وول ستريت جورنال” الأميركية، مساء الأحد، أن مسؤولاً في البيت الأبيض قام مؤخراً بزيارة سرية إلى دمشق، وأجرى اجتماعاً مع الحكومة السورية
وذكرت الصحيفة، استناداً إلى أعضاء في إدارة الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب ومصادر أخرى مطلعة على سير المحادثات، أن نائب مساعد الرئيس الأميركي، كاش باتيل، الذي يعد مسؤولاً بارزاً معنياً بمكافحة الإرهاب في البيت الأبيض، زار دمشق في أوائل العام الحالي لعقد اجتماعات سرية مع حكومة الرئيس السوري بشار الأسد، من أجل تحقيق الإفراج عن مواطنَين أميركيَين يعتبر أنهما محتجزان لدى سلطات البلاد
ولم يكشف المصدر عن المسؤولين الذين التقاهم باتيل، لكنه أوضح أن المحادثات أجريت بهدف التوصّل إلى “صفقة مع الأسد” ستؤدي إلى الإفراج عن الصحافي الأميركي المستقل أوستين تايس، الذي سبق أن خدم في قوات المشاة البحرية، واختفى خلال تغطياته التطورات في سوريا العام 2012، والأميركي السوري ماجد كمالماز أيضاً
وأشارت الصحيفة في تقرير إلى أن هذه الزيارة هي الأولى لمسؤول أميركي رفيع إلى سوريا منذ نحو 10 سنوات
