The Saudi media reported that a person stopped his car close to the American consulate in Jidda, got out shouting with a military weapon and an exchange of fire took place with the guards of the embassy [consulate – Amaraia].
The Saudi media reported that two people got killed, one of them an armed man, in an exchange of live fire in front of the American consulate in Jidda on Wednesday night.
In detail, according to the local media, a person stopped his car close to the American consulate in Jidda, got out shouting with a military weapon and an exchange of fire between the attacker and the contracted security personnel guarding the consulate resulted in killing the attacking person.
Also, a Nepalese employee at the American consulate got injured during the shooting who later on passed away in the hospital.
The Saudi authorities confirmed that the investigations are still ongoing to determine the motivation and the circumstances behind the attack.
In 2016 a suicide attacker blew up an improvised explosive device close to the American consulate in the city in the first hours of Wednesday 4 July which coincided with the American Independence Day.
No group took responsibility for the attack.
A similar attack by armed men occurred in 2004 against the same American consulate in Jidda in which nine people were killed.

أفادت وكالة الأنباء السعودية بوقوع قتيلين، بينهما مسلح، في إطلاق نار أمام القنصلية الأميركية في جدة، مساء اليوم الأربعاء
وفي التفاصيل، بحسب وسائل إعلام محلية، فقد أوقف شخص سيارته بالقرب من القنصلية الأميركية في جدة، وخرج شاهراً سلاحاً حربياً، وقد أسفر تبادل لإطلاق النار بين المهاجم وقوات الأمن الموكلين بحراسة القنصلية عن مقتل الشخص المهاجم
كما أصيب عامل نيبالي في القنصلية الأميركية، خلال تبادل إطلاق النار، وتوفي بعد ذلك في المشفى
وأكّدت السلطات السعودية أنّ التحقيقات جارية حالياً لتحديد الدافع والظروف وراء الهجوم
وفي عام 2016، فجر انتحاري عبوة ناسفة بالقرب من القنصلية الأميركية في المدينة، وذلك في الساعات الأولى من صباح يوم الرابع من تموز/يوليو، الذي يصادف يوم الاستقلال الأميركي.
ولم تعلن أي جماعة مسؤوليتها عن الهجوم.
