The World Bank signed a loan agreement with Tunisia with a value of $400 million. This is the second financial support after the World Bank granted around $300 million loans last year.
The World Bank signed a loan agreement on Wednesday with Tunisia with a value of $400 million, which will be targeted to finance a social and protection support project in order to rapidly confront the Corona epidemic.
The agreement was signed in Tunis by Minister of Economy and Planning Samīr Sa‘īd and the representative of World Bank resident in Tunisia, Alexander Oropio in the presence of Minister of Social Affairs Mālik az-Zāhī.
This is the second financial support after the World Bank granted roughly $300 loan on 31 March 2021 to finance an emergency project for social protection, thus the total sum reaches up to some $700.
Minister of Economy and Planning Samīr Sa‘īd said in a press statement that the additional loan was granted to Tunisia with the condition of a long-term payback.
On his behalf Minister of Social Affairs, Mālik az-Zāhī said that some 310 thousand poverty-strikes or limited income families will benefit from the financial support.
The social protection project to rapidly confront the Corona crisis will concentrate on three areas. One is the emergency money transfers to ease the consequences of the crisis by the Coronavirus ($354 million).
While the second money transfer will be to support the human capital ($24 million) and the support for the social protection system in Tunisia ($21 million).

البنك الدولي يوقع اتفاقية قرض مع تونس بقيمة 400 مليون دولار، والتمويل هو الثاني بعد أن قدم البنك الدولي نحو 300 مليون دولار كقرض العام الماضي.
وقّع البنك الدولي، اليوم الأربعاء، اتفاقية قرض مع تونس بقيمة 400 مليون دولار، سيخصص لتمويل مشروع دعم الحماية الاجتماعية من أجل التصدي العاجل لجائحة كورونا.
ووقع الاتفاقية في تونس العاصمة، وزير الاقتصاد والتخطيط سمير سعيد، وممثل البنك الدولي المقيم بتونس ألكسندر أوروبيو، بحضور وزير الشؤون الاجتماعية مالك الزاهي.
والتمويل هو الثاني بعد أن قدم البنك الدولي نحو 300 مليون دولار كقرض في 31 آذار/مارس 2021، لتمويل المشروع الطارئ لدعم الحماية الاجتماعية ليصل بذلك اجمالي التمويل 700 مليون دولار.
وقال وزير الاقتصاد والتخطيط سمير سعيد في تصريح للصحفيين إنّ القرض التكميلي تم تقديمه إلى تونس بشروط ميسرة على المدى الطويل.
من جهته، قال وزير الشؤون الاجتماعية مالك الزاهي، إنّ التمويل ستنتفع به حوالى 310 آلاف عائلة معوزة ومحدودة الدخل.
ويتكون مشروع الحماية الاجتماعية للتصدي العاجل للجائحة، من ثلاثة محاور وهي التحويلات المالية الطارئة للتخفيف من تداعيات أزمة فيروس كورونا (354 مليون دولار).
