The Qatari Energy Minister says that his country has agreed to supply Germany with yearly two million tons of liquified natural gas for at least 15 years, so to strengthen the general energy security in Europe.
According to what officials announced on Tuesday Qatar agreed to supply Germany with yearly two million tons of liquified natural gas for at least 15 years, while the biggest economic power in Europe struggles to secure substitutes for Russian energy.
Qatari Energy Minister Sa‘ad ibn Šarīda al-Ka‘abī, who also acts as CEO for the Qatari Energy Company said that the two agreements between Berlin and Doha “allow them to support our efforts for strengthening the energy security in Europe overall and in the German Federal Republic especially”.
He added that the “Qatari Energy Company” and the American “Conico Phillips” will take over the gas extraction at the Northeast Block and the North-South Block from 2026 on to the LNG terminal that is being developed in Northern Germany.
On his behalf, German Energy Minister Roberts Haabeck said on Tuesday that he is satisfied with the agreement with Qatar. Haabeck said in a business meeting responding to a question from one of the journalists: “15 years is a great thing. I was not against contracts for 20 (years) or longer, but it is up to the companies to know that the future parties in Germany at one point will cut back if we wish to adhere to our climate protection targets”.
The Asian states with China, Japan, and South Korea at the top of the list constitute the main market for the Qatari gas which the European states want to get a hold of ever more since the war broke out in Ukraine causing fears about energy supplies”.
The main complication was that the negotiations with the European states are difficult, as Germany and the others failed to sign long-term agreements like the Asian states did.
This agreement with Germany was achieved weeks after the Qatari Energy company announced a 27-year-long agreement about supplying China with nearly 4 million tons of liquified gas, whims are said to be the longest-term agreement of such in the history of the sector.

وزير الطاقة القطري يقول إنّ بلاده وافقت على مدّ ألمانيا بمليوني طن من الغاز الطبيعي المسال سنوياً على مدى 15 عاماً على الأقل، ولذلك لتعزيز أمن الطاقة في أوروبا بشكل عام.
وافقت قطر على مدّ ألمانيا بمليوني طن من الغاز الطبيعي المسال سنوياً على مدى 15 عاماً على الأقل، وفق ما أعلن مسؤولون اليوم الثلاثاء، فيما تسعى أكبر قوة اقتصادية في أوروبا جاهدة لتأمين بديل للطاقة الروسية.
وأفاد وزير الطاقة القطري، الذي يشغل أيضاً منصب الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة “قطر للطاقة” سعد بن شريدة الكعبي، أنّ الاتفاقيتين بين برلين والدوحة “تساهمان في دعم جهودنا في تعزيز أمن الطاقة في أوروبا بشكل عام وفي جمهورية ألمانيا الاتحادية بشكل خاص”.
وأضاف أنّ شريكة “قطر للطاقة”، الأميركية “كونوكو فيليبس”، ستتولى توريد الغاز من مشروعي حقل الشمال الشرقي وحقل الشمال الجنوبي اعتباراً من العام 2026 إلى محطة برونزبوتل للغاز الطبيعي المسال التي يتم تطويرها في شمال ألمانيا.
من جهته، عبر وزير الاقتصاد الألماني روبرت هابيك اليوم الثلاثاء عن رضاه إزاء الاتفاق مع قطر. وقال هابيك في مؤتمر للأعمال رداً على سؤال من أحد الصحافيين: “15 عاماً أمر رائع… لم أكن لأعارض عقوداً مدتها 20 (عاماً) أو أطول، لكن يتعين على الشركات أن تعرف أن الطرف المستقبل في ألمانيا سيتراجع في مرحلة ما إذا أردنا الالتزام بأهدافنا لحماية المناخ”.
وتعد دول آسيوية، على رأسها الصين واليابان وكوريا الجنوبية، السوق الرئيسي للغاز القطري الذي تسعى دول أوروبية بشكل متزايد للحصول على حصة منه منذ أثارت الحرب في أوكرانيا مخاوف بشأن إمدادات الطاقة.
وطغت صعوبات على المفاوضات مع بلدان أوروبية إذ تجنّبت ألمانيا وغيرها التوقيع على اتفاقيات طويلة الأمد كتلك التي يتم إبرامها مع بلدان آسيوية.
وتم التوصل إلى الاتفاق مع ألمانيا بعد أسبوع على إعلان “قطر للطاقة” عن اتفاق مدّته 27 عاماً لتزويد الصين بأربعة ملايين طن من الغاز المسال سنوياً، وهو اتفاق قالت إنه الأطول أمداً في تاريخ القطاع
