The head of the editorial board in the Lebanese “al-Ahbār” newspaper, Wafīq Qānṣūh said that when the people took to the streets “they did that in the first days in a spontaneous manner.”

During an interview with the al-Mayadeen channel in the al-Mašhadiyya program he mentioned that a few days after the outburst of the protests ridiculous demands started to be put forward.

The head of the “al-Ahbār” newspaper accused the manager of Bank du Liban, Riyāḍ Salāma that he is the head of corruption.

He said that “the protestors for instance did not lay siege to the houses of the corrupt ones, yet step by step we hear ridiculous demands, like the topple of the Covenant [government].”

He added that the danger with the mobilization is that it is not interested to be there a serious leadership, which is capable to negotiate.

He also regarded the “political al-Ḥarīrism, which lead the country and brought it to this level of indebtedness is not a topic of the protestors’ criticism.”

He said that “the head of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samīr Ğa‘ğa‘ now negotiates with the Covenant [government] to bring his members back from the streets in exchange for gaining more that half of the ministries in the new government.”

He continued that there is American pressure on the Lebanese Army to keep the artificially created chaos go on to bog down the Covenant [Government] and the Ḥizb Allah.

The head of the “al-Ahbār” editorial board reaffirmed that the Ḥizb Allah did not use its weapons internally and it is keen to see life return to its natural form in the regions [of the country].

He said that “there are curios things behind the position taken by the Minister of Education to keep things going in his decision to close the schools.”

Qanṣūh saw that some groups in the civil society became bandits, adding that “the street in its present form won’t agree to anything, even if the government stepped down, which raises questions and suspicions.”

He pointed out that “the demands of some of the protestors in the matter of the arms of the resistance [Ḥizb Allah] affirms the questions we talk about.”

In this context he mentioned that it is required from the clean personalities, who are present in this mobilization to approach their leadership, while repulse the strange ones and the followers of the embassies.

He brought attention to “the name tags, the banditry and the form of the demands all indications that remind us to what happened in Syria.”

كما اعتبر أنّ “الحريرية السياسية التي حكمت البلد وأوصلته إلى هذا الحجم من الديون ليست موضع انتقاد المتظاهرين”
