Syrian police units have apprehended a group of suspects who caused the wildfires of Ṭarṭūs, which broke out last Thursday.

The general prosecutor of Ṭarṭūs province Muḥammad Sulaymān reported that the police have apprehended a group of people suspected to have caused a number of wildfires, confirming that he awaits their transfer to be handed over to a specialized judge.
Sulaymān explained to the “al-Waṭan” newspaper that the suspects will be dealt with according to their crime, if the charges are proven, considering that every crime has its own legal description. Whoever commits a crime intentionally that has its own legal description and he shall be delivered to a criminal court. Whoever commits a crime unintentionally, or by mistake, this has its own legal classification, as unintended crime and shall be delivered to a primary tribunal.
The general prosecutor pointed out that the court in question was asked to handle the case with severe punishment on the perpetrators of arson in Ṭarṭūs, based on the general approach of the justice minister in this matter.
It is interesting to be mentioned that the wildfires broke out largely in the Syrian coast and partially in Ḥimṣ and caused huge damages in the lands and the crops, especially in the olive season. In addition to that many damages happened in living houses.
With help by the Syrian Army and the local residents the fire brigades managed to extinguish all wildfires in the rural areas of Latakia and Ṭarṭūs, and in the western side of Ḥimṣ. At the same time, certain hotspots are still being cooled and watched in fear of resurfacing.

ألقت الوحدات الشرطية السورية القبض على مجموعة من المتهمين بإشعال حرائق طرطوس المندلعة منذ يوم الخميس الماضي
وأفاد المحامي العام في طرطوس محمد سليمان بأن الشرطة ألقت القبض على مجموعة من الأشخاص متهمين بإشعال عدد من الحرائق، مؤكداً أنه بانتظار تحويلهم إلى القضاء لتحويلهم إلى القاضي المختص
وأوضح سليمان لصحيفة “الوطن” أنه سوف يتم التعامل مع المتهمين بحسب الجرم في حال ثبوت التهم عليهم، باعتبار أن كل جرم له توصيف قانوني فمن ارتكب الجريمة عن قصد فسيكون تصنيفها جناية وسيتم تحويله إلى محكمة الجنايات، وأن من ارتكب الجرم عن غير قصد أو بطريق الخطأ فسيتم تصنيف الجريمة على أنها جنحة وسيتم تحويله إلى محكمة بداية الجزاء
وأشار المحامي العام إلى أنه تم التوجيه إلى القضاة المعنيين في الأمر بالتشدد في عقوبة مرتكبي حرائق طرطوس ، بناء على تعميم وزير العدل حول هذا الموضوع
الجدير بالذكر أن الحرائق طالت جزءاً كبيراً من ريف الساحل السوري وقسماً من ريف حمص وتسببت بأضرار كبيرة في الأراضي والحراج وخصوصاً في موسم الزيتون إضافة إلى تضرر العديد من المنازل
وتمكنت فرق الإطفاء اليوم بمساعدة الجيش السوري والأهالي من إخماد كافة الحرائق في أرياف اللاذقية وطرطوس وغربي حمص، فيما لا تزال بعض البؤر تحت التبريد والمراقبة خشية إعادة الاشتعال
