Deputy Speaker of the Iranian Consultative Council Ḥamīd-Reẓā Ḥāğī Bābā’ī confirms that the Central Bank has received the first payments of the crossing fees for the Strait of Hormuz and underlines that the control over the Strait “means Iran’s role in the global economy”.

On Thursday Deputy Speaker of the Iranian Consultative Council Ḥamīd-Reẓā Ḥāğī Bābā’ī announced that the first payment of the crossing fee for the Strait of Hormuz “has been received in an account of the Central Bank”.

Bābā’ī added that 20% of the global oil and 35% of the global natural gas go through the Strait of Hormuz, therefore “the control over it means the role of Iran in the global economy”.

Member of the Iranian Parliament’s Presidency Aḥmad Nāderī has confirmed earlier that the crossing fees for the Strait of Hormuz “will be in Iranian riyals”, underlining that “these will be permanent fees”.

This comes after Iran through Speaker of the Iranian Consultative Council Moḥammad Bāqer Qālībāf announced that “the Strait of Hormuz is under control of the Islamic Republic”, and along side the continued American blockade of the Strait in violation of the ceasefire agreement with Iran.

Qālībāf had confirmed that it is impossible to other would be able to cross the Strait of Hormuz, while “we would not be able to that”, underlining that in case American did not lift the blockade the movement in the Strait of Hormuz for sure will be limited.

According to the Iranian conditions the crossing of the Strait is limited to trade vessels only, while the selection of which are these vessels are due to Iran, while any naval vessel that has any connection to its enemies are exceptions. It is also indicated that crossing vessels are obliged to pay “a security guarantee fee” for Iran.

Also according to the conditions the crossing takes place in coordination with the Iranian forces that are responsible for the movement in the Strait of Hormuz, which are the Revolutionary Guards Naval Forces.

وقبل أكثر من أسبوع، أعلن الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب فرض حصار على الموانئ الإيرانية، في محاولة للضغط على إيران لتقديم تنازلات في المفاوضات. ما دفع طهران لإغلاق مضيق هرمز من جديد أمام السفن التجارية المعادية أو الحليفة لأعداء إيران.

وتوصّلت طهران وواشنطن، في منتصف ليل 7-8 نيسان/أبريل، على اتفاق لوقف إطلاق النار لمدة أسبوعين على أن تتخلّلهما مفاوضات، قبل أن تنقض واشنطن لعدد من البنود التي كانت قد وافقت عليها
