The American State Department issues its annual report about the freedom of religion around the world in 2021 and talks about the situation of religious freedoms in a number of states, amongst them Saudi Arabia.
American State Secretary Antony Blinken criticized the situation of religious freedom in a number of states, amongst them Saudi Arabia, China, and Afghanistan.
In a press conference on the occasion of issuing the report of the American State Department about religious freedom in 2021 Blinken said that “Islam is the only religion in Saudi Arabia that be practiced”. He also criticized the kingdom for “bias against members of religious minorities”.
He added: “We are aware of the recent important steps to increase the dialogue between religions and religious tolerance in the kingdom, yet despite this, the practice of any religion other than Islam remains illegal”.
In the same context, the State Secretary accused China of “detaining more than a million Uyghurs, Kazakhs and others in detainment camps in Xinchian”.
He also addressed the situation in Afghanistan and said that it “largely deteriorates under the rule of the Ṭālebān, within this the curbing the basic rights of women and young girl to receive education, work, and to integrate into society, mostly under religious pretexts”.
On the other hand Traveling Ambassador of the United States about International Religious Freedom Rašād Ḥusayn believed that “the report provides detailed information about the state of religious freedom and focuses on the laws and governmental bias that aims to defame the practices of their peoples, increase social intolerance agitating for violence, but also on some developments that were put forward”.
Ḥusayn in a different context called upon “the courts of Russia to systematically decrease the prison sentences against individuals, who are practicing their religious freedoms. The authorities carry out hundreds of raids on homes against suspected fundamentalists, who mostly don’t intend violence”.

وزارة الخارجية الأميركية تصدر تقريرها السنوي حول الحرية الدينية في العالم لعام 2021، وتتحدث عن أوضاع الحريات الدينية في العديد من الدول منها السعودية
انتقد وزير الخارجية الأميركي، أنتوني بلينكن، أوضاع الحريات الدينية في العديد من الدول منها السعودية والصين وأفغانستان.
وفي مؤتمر صحافي بمناسبة صدور تقرير وزارة الخارجية الأميركية السنوي حول الحرية الدينية في العالم لعام 2021، قال بلينكن إن “الإسلام في السعودية هو الدين الوحيد الذي يمكن ممارسته”، وانتقد المملكة لـ”تمييزها ضدّ أفراد الأقليات الدينية”.
وأضاف: “ندرك التحركات الأخيرة المهمة لزيادة الحوار بين الأديان والتسامح الديني في المملكة ومع ذلك، فإن ممارسة أي دين آخر غير الإسلام تظل غير قانونية”.
في السياق نفسه، اتهم وزير الخارجية الأميركي الصين بـ”احتجاز أكثر من مليون من الأويغور والقازاق والقيرغيز وغيرهم في معسكرات اعتقال في شينجيانغ”.
كذلك تطرّق إلى الأوضاع في أفغانستان، وقال إنها “تدهورت بشكل كبير في ظل حكم طالبان، لا سيما مع قمع الحقوق الأساسية للنساء والفتيات في الحصول على التعليم والعمل والانخراط في المجتمع، غالباً تحت راية الدين”.
من جهته، اعتبر سفير الولايات المتحدة المتجول لشؤون الحريات الدينية الدولية، رشاد حسين، أن “التقرير يقدّم معلومات مفصّلة عن حالة الحريات الدينية، ويركز على القوانين التمييزية للحكومات التي تهدف لإساءة معاملة شعوبها، وزيادة التعصب المجتمعي الذي يغذي العنف وكذلك بعض التقدم الذي تمّ إحرازه”.
وادّعى حسين في سياق مختلف، أنّ “محاكم روسيا تقضي بصورة منتظمة بأحكام سجن مفرطة ضد الأفراد الذين يمارسون حريتهم الدينية، وتنفذ السلطات مئات المداهمات للمنازل ضدّ المتطرفين المشتبه بهم والتي غالباً ما تشمل العنف
