Iraqi President Barham Ṣāliḥ confirms the importance of the next legislative elections and considers them to be an important test for the country’s democratic path and future
Iraqi President Barham Ṣāliḥ believes that the next legislative elections will have major importance, as they are “come after popular mobilization and the wide national consensus that the situation in the country in need of fundamental reforms, and also that they will be an important test for the country’s democratic path and its future”.
Ṣāliḥ made it clear during a broad meeting about the monitoring of the next parliamentary elections that “one of the reasons for the political deadlock in Iraq goes back to the developmental defects in the elections process, which have lost much of its legality for the Iraqi citizens”, according to his expression. Thus confirming that “the next elections October will be decisive, fundamental and a turning point, which has to hold their transparency and justice”.
The Iraqi President added that restoring the trust of the voters in the election process and securing wide participation “must be the upmost priorities for the elections to become a truly peaceful path for the change and the reform of the general conditions. But also to support the democratic path in the country, which faced deteriorating problems because of calamities that followed the previous elections.
Iraqi Prime Minister Muṣṭafā al-Kāẓimī had confirmed the intention of his government to hold the legislative elections in their scheduled time without any delay.
It was scheduled that the Iraqi elections shall be on 6 June, but the Supreme Election Delegation requested the Prime Ministry to postpone it, to which the parliament responded to put it to 10 October this year as the new date to hold the early legislative elections.

الرئيس العراقي برهم صالح يؤكّد أهمية الانتخابات التشريعية المقبلة، ويعتبر أنها ستكون اختباراً مهماً للمسار الديمقراطي في البلد ومستقبله
اعتبر رئيس الجمهورية العراقية، برهم صالح، أن الانتخابات التشريعية المقبلة لها أهمية كبرى، لأنها “تأتي بعد حراك شعبي وإجماع وطني واسع على أن الأوضاع في البلد في حاجة إلى إصلاحات جذرية، كما أنها ستكون اختباراً مهماً للمسار الديمقراطي في البلد ومستقبله
وبيّن صالح، خلال اجتماعٍ موسّعٍ بشأن مراقبة الانتخابات النيابية المقبلة، أنَّ “أحد أسباب الاحتقان السياسي في العراق يعود إلى مكامن الخلل في العملية الانتخابية، التي فقدت كثيراً من شرعيتها أمام المواطن العراقي”، بحسب تعبيره، مؤكداً أن “الانتخابات المقبلة في تشرين الأول/أكتوبر مصيرية ومفصلية وتأسيسية، ويجب ضمان نزاهتها وعدالتها
وأضاف الرئيس العراقي أن إعادة ثقة الناخبين بالعملية الانتخابية، وضمانَ المشاركة الواسعة “يجب أن يكونا أولوية قصوى، لتكون الانتخابات المسار السلمي الحقيقي للتغيير وإصلاح الأوضاع العامة، ودعم المسار الديمقراطي في البلد، والذي تعرّض للتشكيك بسبب الخروقات التي رافقت العمليات الانتخابية السابقة
وكان رئيس الحكومة العراقية، مصطفى الكاظمي، أكّد نيّة حكومته إجراء الانتخابات التشريعية في موعدها من دون تأخير
وكان من المقرر أن تجري الانتخابات العراقية في 6 حزيران/يونيو المقبل، لكن المفوّضية العليا للانتخابات طالبت رئاسة الوزراء بتأجيل موعدها، واستجاب المجلس لها، وصوت بالإجماع على تحديد 10 تشرين الأول/اكتوبر المقبل، موعداً جديداً لإجراء الانتخابات التشريعية المبكّرة
