After the aṣ-Ṣadrī faction resigned in the Iraqi National Assembly the Consultative Framework announces that it continues to discuss the latest developments with the political forces in order to tackle the crisis.

According to what the Iraqi Press Agency mentioned, the Consultative Framework in Iraq confirmed on Monday the progress in the discussions with the political forces to form a government.

In a statement the Consultative Framework said that “it held its regular meeting on Monday to discuss the latest political of the political field”, also confirming “it continues with the necessary steps to tackle the political crisis and make progress in the dialogue with all political forces in order to fulfill the constitutional obligations and form a government serving the homeland”.

It also added that “the Consultative Framework hopes to make progress with all political forces, but it respects the decision of the aṣ-Ṣadrī faction to resign from the National Assembly”, thus pointing out that “it will continue to work with all towards securing a broad representation and achieve the desires of the Iraqi people and hopes for security, stability, and dignified life, but also strengthening the role of Iraq and its position in the region and around the world.

Muḥammad Ğa‘far aṣ-Ṣadr, Iraqi ambassador in Britain and son of religious eminence Martyr Muḥammad Bāqir aṣ-Ṣadr withdrew his nomination for being the Prime Minister.

On the other hand, Speaker of the Iraqi National Assembly Muḥammad al-Ḥalabulsī said that “there are other understandings after the resignation of the aṣ-Ṣadrī faction”, which he described as “a sacrifice”, pointing out that the political deadlock in Iraq will end.

The leader of the “aṣ-Ṣadrī Movement”, Muqtadā aṣ-Ṣadr on Sunday called upon the president of the aṣ-Ṣadrī faction, Ḥasan al-‘Ūdārī to hand in the resignation of the faction’s members to the Speaker of the Parliament. The faction is made up of 73 members. He also gave instructions to close all the institutions of the faction, with some exceptions.

Aṣ-Ṣadrī announced on 15 May that his faction did not succeed to form a national unity government, thus transforming into “oppositional seats, opening the way for other parliamentary factions to form a government”.

On 31 March aṣ-Ṣadr announced that along with his faction he withdraws from the negotiations to elect the president and to form a government, thus opening the way for the Consultative Framework for negotiations with the political parties in this matter.
