The Banking and Finance Institutions’ Society in Algeria gave instructions to the directors of all the banks to prohibit any bank transaction to carry out import activity from Spain.
The Banking and Institutions’ Society in Algeria on Wednesday gave out instructions to the directors of all banks to prohibit any banking transaction done to carry out import activities from Spain.
The instructions prohibited any “banking transaction for export to Spain”. According to the instructions of the Banking and Finance Institutions’ Society, the new measures will go into effect on Wednesday.
It should be pointed out that the decision came after the Algerian authorities suspended the friendship and good neighbor memorandum with Spain, and that is for its [Spain’s] position on the Sahara matter.
The aforementioned memorandum between the two states was signed on 8 October 2002, yet the relations between Algeria and Spain went through a number of major crises since the sudden change of position by the Spanish government about the matter of Western Sahara.
Algerian President ‘Abd al-Mağīd Tabbūn had announced before that the deviation of Spain’s position toward the case of Western Sahara is “unacceptable morally and historically”.

الجمعية المهنية للبنوك والمؤسسات المالية في الجزائر توجّه تعليمات لمديري البنوك كافة بمنع أي عملية توطين بنكي لإجراء عملية استيراد من إسبانيا.
وجّهت الجمعية المهنية للبنوك والمؤسسات المالية في الجزائر، أمس الأربعاء، تعليمات لمديري البنوك كافة تمنع بموجبها أي عملية توطين بنكي لإجراء عملية استيراد من إسبانيا.
وتمنع التعليمات أي “عملية توطين بنكي للتصدير إلى إسبانيا”. ويدخل الإجراء الجديد وفق تعليمات الجمعية المهنية للبنوك والمؤسسات المالية حيّز التنفيذ بداية من اليوم الخميس.
يُشار إلى أنّ القرار جاء بعد تعليق السلطات الجزائرية معاهدة الصداقة وحسن الجوار مع إسبانيا، وذلك لموقفها من القضية الصحراوية.
وأُبرمت المعاهدة المذكورة بين البلدين في 8 تشرين الأول/أكتوبر 2002، غير أنّ العلاقات بين الجزائر وإسبانيا تمرّ بأزمةٍ كبيرة منذ التغير المفاجئ في موقف الحكومة الإسبانية من القضية الصحراوية.
