Al-Kāẓimī said in a press conference he held in Baghdad before leaving for Saudi Arabia to attend the Jidda Conference that “the Jidda Conference will discuss the horizons of cooperation in the matters of energy, climate change, and food security considering that these are the main challenges of the world and the region. Also, any talk him discussing the normalization is not true, as this matter will not be put forward at all”.
According to the official Iraqi News Agency (WA‘) he added that “the position of Iraq is stabile about the Palestinian case and supports the rights of the Palestinian people. Al-Kāẓimī explained that “the policies of Iraq is to eliminate problems and create a balance in the relations”, underlining that his country “will not ever be any threat to any of its neighboring states, and Iraq, not today, nor tomorrow, will not be part military axis or alliance in the region”.
About his meeting with American President Joe Biden, who will be present at the Jidda Conference, al-Kāẓimī explained that he “will discuss with Biden the matter of strategic agreements in the matters of health, economic and cultural cooperation”.
Two days ago the office of the Iraqi Prime Minister announced the participation of al-Kāẓimī in the summit that will be hosted by Saudi Arabia at the beginning of next week, aside from the presidents and leaders of GCC, Egypt, Jordan, but also an addition to the President of the United States of America with the participation of President Joe Biden.
The announcement of Iraqi government said on Wednesday that al-Kāẓimī decided to take part in the summit to “discuss matters of energy, food security, environmental challenges, outlining the steps for cooperation and partnership and joint coordination about these pivotal questions that interest all the peoples of the region.”
The statement added that “the participation of Iraq comes in response to the invitation of Saudi monarch Salmān ibn ‘Abd al-‘Azīz Āl Saūd”, and also that participation in this summit “is fulfilling the commitment to conduct developing diplomatic relations and safeguard Iraq’s international place, while holding on to the principal moderation and keeping a balance, distancing it from the policy of alliances and any axis”.
On 25 June al-Kāẓimī had a visit to Riyadh, during which he met the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Muḥammad ibn Salmān. Then this was followed by a visit to Tehran the next day, making him meet Iranian President Ebrāhīm Ra’īsī.
Iraqi sources explained to al-Mayadeen that this visit “was held in light of the negotiations made between Riyadh, Tehran lately in Baghdad, meaning at the Ramadan this year”.

وقال الكاظمي خلال مؤتمر صحافي عقده في بغداد قبل التوجه إلى السعودية لحضور مؤتمر جدة، إنّ “مؤتمر جدة سيناقش آفاق التعاون في ملفات الطاقة والتغير المناخي والأمن الغذائي باعتباره التحدي الأكبر في العالم والمنطقة والحديث عن مناقشته لملف التطبيع غير صحيح إذ أنّ هذا الموضوع لن يطرح مطلقاً
وأضاف، وفقاً للوكالة الرسمية العراقية (واع)، أنّ “موقف العراق ثابت من القضية الفلسطينية وداعم لحقوق الشعب الفلسطيني، وما يقال من أنّ المؤتمر سيبحث ملف التطبيع الهدف منه التشويش على استعادة العراق لدوره في المنطقة”.
وأوضح الكاظمي أنّ “سياسة العراق تصفير المشاكل وتحقيق التوازن في العلاقات”، مشدداً على أن بلده “لن يكون منطلقاً لتهديد أي من دول الجوار، والعراق لن يكون اليوم أو غداً في أي محور أو تحالف عسكري في المنطقة”.
وبشأن لقائه بالرئيس الأميركي جو بايدن، الذي سيحضر مؤتمر جدة، أوضح الكاظمي إنه “سيناقش مع بايدن ملف الاتفاقية الاستراتيجية في ملفات التعاون الصحي والاقتصادي والثقافي”.
ومنذ يومين، أعلن مكتب رئيس الوزراء العراقي مشاركة الكاظمي في القمّة التي تستضيفها السعودية، مطلع الأسبوع المقبل، إلى جانب رؤساء وقادة دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي، ومصر، والأردن، بالإضافة إلى الولايات المتحدة الأميركية بمشاركة الرئيس الأميركي جو بايدن.
وذكر بيان للحكومة العراقية، الأربعاء، أنّ الكاظمي قرّر المشاركة في القمة لـ”مناقشة قضايا الطاقة، والأمن الغذائي، والتحديات البيئية، ورسم خطوات التعاون، والشراكة، والتنسيق المشترك إزاء هذه القضايا المصيرية التي تعاني منها شعوب المنطقة جمعاء”.
وأضاف البيان أن “تلبية العراق تأتي بناءً على دعوة العاهل السعودي الملك سلمان بن عبد العزيز آل سعود”، وأنّ المشاركة في هذه القمة “استمرار لالتزام الحكومة منهج تطوير العلاقات الدبلوماسية، وحرصها على حفظ مكانة العراق الدولية، مع التمسك بمبدأ الاعتدال، وحفظ التوازن، والابتعاد عن سياسة المحاور والتحالفات”.
وكان الكاظمي أجرى، في 25 حزيران/يونيو، زيارة إلى الرياض التقى خلالها ولي العهد السعودي محمد بن سلمان، ثم أعقبها بزيارة إلى طهران في اليوم التالي التقى خلالها الرئيس الإيراني إبراهيم رئيسي.
وكانت مصادر عراقية أوضحت للميادين أنّ هذه الزيارة “تندرج في إطار المحادثات التي أجرتها الرياض وطهران في بغداد أخيراً، أي نهاية شهر رمضان الماضي
