The Wall Street Journal reveals the American President Joe Biden was planning to contact Saudi Crown Prince Muḥammad ibn Salmān and Abū Zabī Crown Prince Muḥammad ibn Zāyid, but they refused this.
The American Wall Street Journal published on Wednesday that Saudi Crown Prince Muḥammad ibn Salmān and Abū Zabī Crown Prince Muḥammad ibn Zāyid refused to receive a phone call from American President Joe Biden.
The newspaper added that “Biden wanted to call Ibn Salmān and Ibn Zāyid to ask them to increase the oil production of their countries”.
It pointed out that Ibn Zāyid and Ibn Salmān last week talked with Russian President Putin and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenskiy adding that the Emirates and Saudi Arabia refused to increase the oil production and remained committed to the plan devised by OPEC and the oil production group led by Russia.
The Wall Street Journal said that the refusal by Ibn Salmān and Ibn Zāyid to have a phone conversation with Biden expresses their dissatisfaction with the level of support by Washington to the war in Yemen, but it also expresses their dissatisfaction with the Vienna talks.
The newspaper pointed out that the Saudis’ relations with Washington is dwindling under the Biden administration as they want more support in their war effort in Yemen and help with their nuclear project while Iran is progressing.
It added that according to Saudi officials Muḥammad ibn Salmān also wants legal immunity from the United States as he is facing a number of court cases, including amongst these the murder of the journalist Ğamāl Hāšuqğī in 2018.
The newspaper said that the White House worked on repairing the relations with Saudi Arabia and the Emirates, as it needs them at a time, when the price of oil increased to more than $130/barrel for the first time in roughly 14 years.
It continued: “Saudi Arabia and the Emirates are the only main oil producers, which can pour in millions of barrels of oil. A quantity which was to be used can help to calm the crude oil market at a time, when the price of the American benzine is at high levels”.
In the same context the American Axios website had revealed earlier that the advisors of American President Joe Biden are studying to have a visit to Saudi Arabia this spring to help mend the relations and convince the kingdom to pour in more oil.
The website states that this journey shows the level of danger by the global energy crisis, which is caused by the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
Saudi Crown Prince Muḥammad ibn Salmān stated to the American “The Atlantic” newspaper that “the United States is aware what it has to do in order to improve its political and economic interests with us”.
Ibn Salmān confirmed that: “As we have the option to strengthen our interests with Washington, we also have option to decrease them”.

صحيفة “وول ستريت جورنال” تكشف أنّ الرئيس الأميركي جو بايدن كان يخطط للاتصال بولي العهد السعودي محمد بن سلمان وولي عهد أبو ظبي محمد بن زايد، لكنهما رفضا ذلك
ذكرت صحيفة “وول ستريت جورنال” الأميركية، اليوم الأربعاء، أنّ ولي العهد السعودي محمد بن سلمان وولي عهد أبو ظبي محمد بن زايد رفضا تلقي اتصال هاتفي من الرئيس الأميركي جو بايدن.
وأوضحت الصحيفة أنّ “بايدن كان ينوي الاتصال بابن سلمان وابن زايد لطلب زيادة إنتاج بلديهما من النفط”.
وأشارت إلى أنّ ابن زايد وابن سلمان تحدثا الأسبوع الماضي مع الرئيسين الروسي فلاديمير بوتين والأوكراني فولوديمير زيلينسكي، مضيفةً أنّ الإمارات والسعودية ترفضان زيادة إنتاج النفط والالتزام بخطة أقرتها “أوبك” ومجموعة من المنتجين بقيادة روسيا.
وقالت “وول ستريت جورنال” إنّ رفض ابن سلمان وابن زايد تلقّي اتصال بايدن يعبّر عن عدم رضاهما عن حجم دعم واشنطن لحرب اليمن، كما يعبّر عن عدم رضاهما عن مفاوضات فيينا.
ولفتت الصحيفة إلى أنّ علاقات السعوديين بواشنطن تدهورت في ظل إدارة بايدن، فهم يريدون المزيد من الدعم لتدخلهم في الحرب في اليمن، والمساعدة في برنامجهم النووي مع تقدم إيران.
وأضافت أنّ محمد ابن سلمان، وفق مسؤولين سعوديين، يريد أيضاً حصانة قانونية في الولايات المتحدة، إذ إنه يواجه عدة دعاوى قضائية فيها، بما في ذلك قضية مقتل الصحافي جمال خاشقجي في العام 2018.
وقالت الصحيفة إنّ البيت الأبيض عمل على إصلاح العلاقات مع السعودية والإمارات، إذ إنه يحتاجهما إلى جانبه في وقتٍ ارتفعت أسعار النفط إلى أكثر من 130 دولاراً للبرميل للمرة الأولى منذ 14 عاماً تقريباً.
وتابعت: “السعودية والإمارات هما المنتجان الرئيسيان الوحيدان للنفط اللذان يمكنهما ضخ ملايين البراميل الإضافية من النفط، وهي قدرةٌ، إذا تم استخدامها، يمكن أن تساعد في تهدئة سوق النفط الخام، في وقتٍ تكون أسعار البنزين الأميركية عند مستويات عالية”.
وفي السياق نفسه، كشف موقع “أكسيوس” الأميركي، في وقتٍ سابق، أنّ مستشاري الرئيس الأميركي جو بايدن يدرسون ترتيب زيارة له إلى السعودية هذا الربيع للمساعدة في إصلاح العلاقات وإقناع المملكة بضخ المزيد من النفط.
وقال الموقع إنّ هذه الرحلة تظهر مدى خطورة أزمة الطاقة العالمية التي سببتها العملية العسكرية الروسية في أوكرانيا.
وكان ولي العهد السعودي، محمد بن سلمان صرّح لمجلة “أتلنتك” الأميركية بأنّ “الولايات المتحدة تعي ما ينبغي فعله من أجل تنمية مصالحها السياسية والاقتصادية معنا”.
