The visit by Syrian President Baššār al-Asad to the Emirate causes opposition by Washington, which clearly expressed its “deep dissatisfaction”.
The American State Department expressed its “disappointment and deep dissatisfaction” by the visit of Syrian President Baššār al-Asad to the Emirates, thus confirming its refusal to what it described as “a clear attempt to grant legitimacy” to the Syrian government.
The statement said by American State Secretary Antony Blinken reiterated “the lack of support for the efforts to rebuild acceptable for President al-Asad”.
The words of the American State Department came after the visit of the Syrian President to the Emirates yesterday, where he discussed the regional and global developments and the strengthening of the bilateral relations between the two states with Abū Zabī Crown Prince Muḥammad ibn Zāyid.
The visit of al-Asad to the Emirates is the first visit by him to an Arab country since the beginning of the Syrian crisis in 2011.
Emirati Foreign Minister ‘Abd Allah ibn Zāyid visited Damascus last year, and confirmed at that time that Syria’s return to its Arab neighborhood “is a thing that has to happen, and that is the interest of Syria and the whole region”.

زيارة الرئيس السوري بشار الأسد إلى الإمارات تثير اعتراض واشنطن التي عبّرت بوضوح عن “انزعاج عميق
أعربت وزارة الخارجية الأميركية عن “خيبة أمل وانزعاج عميقين” من زيارة الرئيس السوري بشار الأسد إلى الإمارات، مؤكدةً رفضها لما وصفته بـ”المحاولة الواضحة لإضفاء الشرعية” على الحكومة السورية.
وكرر البيان كلام وزير الخارجية الأميركي، أنتوني بلينكن، حول “عدم دعم جهود إعادة تأهيل الرئيس الأسد”.
كلام الخارجية الأميركية جاء بعد زيارة الرئيس السوري إلى الإمارات، يوم أمس، حيث بحث مع ولي عهد أبو ظبي، محمد بن زايد، التطورات الإقليمة والدولية وتعزيز العلاقات الثنائية بين البلدين.
وزيارة الأسد للإمارات هي الزيارة الأولى له لدولة عربية منذ بدء الأزمة السورية عام 2011.
