The Saudi News Television announces that members of the “Southern Transition Council” have agreed to dissolve it, while its official spokesman says that the decisions about the “Council” can only be taken by all its institutions.

09 January

On Friday the Southern Transitional Council announced dissolving itself and all its institutions, central and regional services and dissolving all its offices in and outside the country.

This came in a televised statement aired by the Yemeni government channel given by Secretary General of the Council’s Presidential Institution ‘Abd ar-Raḥmān aṣ-Ṣubayḥī in the Saudi capital Riyadh. It was also published by the “Saba’ ” News Agency.

Aṣ-Ṣubayḥī said: “We announce dissolving the Southern Transitional Council and dissolving all its institutions, central and regional services and closing its offices within the country and abroad, also working on achieving our just goal in the South by working and contributing to the Comprehensive Southern Conference under the supervision of the Kingdom”.

He also explained that this decision came after the recent developments in the provinces of Ḥaḍramawt and al-Mahra, paving the way for the participation in the Southern Dialogue Conference in Riyadh.

The Saudi News channel has mentioned that members of the Yemeni “Southern Transitional Council” have agreed to solve it and to solve the institutions that belong to it.

The channel pointed out that President of the Emirati supported “Council” ‘Aydrūs az-Zubaydī had left Yemen and will not participate in the talks.

On 3 January Saudi Arabia called upon all Southern stakeholders in Yemen to participate in the conference the Kingdom is hosting to put forward a whole picture about the just solutions to the matter of the South.

The Saudi invitation came only hours after President of the Presidential Leadership Council Rašād al-‘Ulaymī asked Riyadh to host the conference, which was met with broad content in the Arab world.

Aṣ-Ṣubayḥī stated that the Council “did not participate in the decision about the military operation towards Ḥaḍramawt and al-Mahra provinces”, which he said were “were taken apart from the unified Southern position and caused malice to the relations with the Coalition under the leadership of Saudi Arabia”.

On its behalf Saudi Defense Minister Hālid ibn Salmān said that the decision that was taken by the Southern personnel and leaders to solve the Transitional Council was a “brave decision”.

He announced that the personalities in all Southern Yemeni provinces will “unequivocally and without bias” will participate in the Riyadh Conference about “the future of the Southern matter”.

On the other hand the official spokesman of the “Transitional Council” said that “the decisions about the Council can only be taken by the Council with all its institutions”.

This came after the developments, as the forces of the Saudi supported “National Shield” forces announced that on Thursday they have carried out their deployment in Aden Province according to the “organized plan executing the highest levels discipline and preparedness in full cooperation with the designated parties”, to confirm “that the forces are dedicated to their national duties”.

This came after the tensions have recently escalated between the “Presidential Council” and the “Southern Transitional Council”, after the latter carried out a military operation taking control over vast areas, after eventually withdrawing from several regions.

Also President of the “Presidential Leadership Council” Rašād al-‘Ulaymī issued a series of decrees that included dismissing and appointing military and civilian leaders in the provinces of Aden, Ḥaḍramawt and al-Mahra, while putting a number of them under investigation.
