Head of government for the Iraqi Kurdistan region Masrūr Barazānī welcomes the Deputy Commander of the Coalition Forces in Iraq and Syria General Karl Harris and the latter confirms his support “for the Pešmarga forces combating Dā‘iš”.
Deputy Commander General of the Coalition Forces in Iraq and Syria General Karl Harris today, on Tuesday confirmed the support of Coalition Forces for the Pešmarga forces combating the Dā‘iš Organization.
This happened during a meeting between Deputy Commander General of the Coalition Forces in Iraq and Syria General Karl Harris and head of government for the Kurdistan region in Northern Iraq Masrūr Barazānī in Irbil.
The statement issued by the regional government mentioned that “the Deputy Commander General of the Coalition Forces in Iraq and Syria confirmed the support of the Coalition Forces for the Peršmarga (the armed forces of the region) combating the terrorists of Dā‘iš”.
It also pointed out that “the Dā‘iš is still presents a real threat to the security and stability of Iraq and Syria”.
On his own behalf Barazānī confirmed the necessity for “strengthening and upholding the cooperation mechanism between the Iraqi Army and the Pešmarga, including the Kurdistani territories beyond the regional administration to uproot the threat by the terrorists of Dā‘iš by once again activating the joint security cooperation centers and erase the security holes in these areas”.
Since 2014 Washington led an International Coalition against “Dā‘iš” in Iraq and Syria. At the end of 2017 Baghdad announced the victory over “Dā‘iš” by reestablishing control over the lands since the summer of 2014 were under control by it, and these reached up to roughly one third of the country’s territory. Yet the organization still holds sleeping cells in large areas of Iraq and launches bloody attacks from time to time.

أكد نائب القائد العام لقوات التحالف في العراق وسوريا الجنرال كارل هاريس، اليوم الثلاثاء، دعم قوات التحالف لقوات البيشمركة في مواجهة تنظيم داعش.
جاء ذلك خلال لقاء جمع نائب القائد العام لقوات التحالف في العراق وسوريا الجنرال كارل هاريس، مع رئيس حكومة إقليم كردستان شمالي العراق مسرور بارزاني، في أربيل.
وذكر البيان الصادر عن حكومة الإقليم، أن “نائب القائد العام لقوات التحالف في العراق وسوريا أكد دعم قوات التحالف للبيشمركة (القوات المسلحة للإقليم) في مواجهة إرهابيي داعش”.
كما أشار إلى أن “داعش لا يزال يشكل تهديداً حقيقياً لأمن واستقرار العراق وسوريا”.
من جهته، أكد بارزاني ضرورة “تعزيز ومواصلة آليات التنسيق بين الجيش العراقي والبيشمركة، سيما في المناطق الكردستانية خارج إدارة الإقليم، للقضاء على تهديدات إرهابيي داعش من خلال تفعيل مراكز التنسيق الأمني المشتركة وإنهاء الثغرة الأمنية في تلك المناطق”.
وقادت واشنطن منذ عام 2014، تحالفاً دولياً ضد “داعش” في العراق وسوريا. وأواخر 2017، أعلنت بغداد الانتصار على “داعش” باستعادة الأراضي التي كان يسيطر عليها منذ صيف 2014 البالغة نحو ثلث مساحة البلاد، لكن التنظيم لا يزال يحتفظ بخلايا نائمة في مناطق واسعة من العراق ويشن هجمات دموية من حين إلى آخر.
