American State Secretary Mike Pompeo commented on the reports revealing the secret journey of a White House official to Damascus, and his attempts to reopen the diplomatic channels.

Pompeo said in a press conference held today, on Wednesday in the State Department’s headquarters that “the United States will not change its policy towards the Syrian authorities to secure the release of the journalist Austin Ties, and the other American citizens held by them”.
Pompeo explained that “We asked the Syrians to release Mr. Ties and reveal is what they know, but they chose not to do that”.
The American State Secretary continued: “We will continue to work to secure the return of Austin Ties and all detained Americans. But we are not about to change the American policy to achieve that”.
This statement comes after the Wall Street Journal newspaper reported last Monday, based on sources within the White House that deputy assistant to the American President Kash Patel, who is a leading official in the field of counter-terrorism in the White House have visited Damascus this year to hold a secret meeting with the Syrian state lead by President al-Asad in order to achieve the release of two American citizens believed to be held by the authorities of the state.
This visit is the first one for some 10 years by a high ranking American official to Syria since the Syrian crisis started in 2011.
It should be mentioned that the United States of America played a huge role in supporting and training Syrian and foreign armed men, who entered Syrian territories via Turkey. America also spread its forces in parts of Syria and has a number of military bases, while it is stealing the Syrian oil with the help of the Kurdish Qasad [Syrian Democratic Forces] forces.

علق وزير الخارجية الأمريكي، مايك بومبيو، على تقارير كشفت زيارة سرية لمسؤول بالبيت الأبيض إلى دمشق، ومحاولاتهم لاعادة فتح الطرق الدبلوماسية
وقال بومبيو، في مؤتمر صحفي عقده اليوم الأربعاء في مقر الخارجية الأمريكية، إن “الولايات المتحدة لن تغير سياستها تجاه السلطات السورية لتأمين إفراجها عن الصحفي، أوستين تايس، والأمريكيين الآخرين المحتجزين لديها
وأوضح بومبيو: “طلبنا عند السوريين يتمثل في الإفراج عن السيد تايس والكشف لنا عما يعلمونه. لكنهم اختاروا عدم فعل ذلك
وتابع وزير الخارجية الأمريكي: “سنواصل العمل لضمان عودة أوستين تايس بل كل أمريكي محتجز. لكننا لا ننوي تغيير السياسة الأمريكية من أجل فعل ذلك
ويأتي هذا التصريح بعد أن نقلت صحيفة “وول ستريت جورنال”، الأحد الماضي، استنادا إلى مصادر في إدارة الولايات المتحدة، أن نائب مساعد الرئيس الأمريكي، كاش باتيل، الذي يعد مسؤولا بارزا معنيا بمكافحة الإرهاب بالبيت الأبيض، زار دمشق في أوائل العام الحالي لعقد اجتماعات سرية مع الدولة السورية بقيادة الرئيس الاسد، من أجل تحقيق الإفراج عن مواطنين أمريكيين اثنين يعتبر أنهما محتجزان لدى سلطات البلاد
وهذه الزيارة هي الأولى منذ نحو 10 سنوات لمسؤول أمريكي رفيع إلى سوريا، منذ وقوع الازمة السورية التي اندلعت عام 2011
يذكر ان الولايات المتحدة الامريكية لعبت دورا كبيرا في دعم وتدريب المسلحين السوريين والاجانب الذين دخلوا الى الاراضي السورية عبر تركيا، كما تنشر امريكا قوات لها في اجزاءا من سوريا ولديها عدة قواعد عسكرية وهي تسرق النفط السوري بمساعدة قوات قسد الكردية
