Director of Iraqi Intelligence Ḥamīd aš-Šaṭrī warns against the return of the danger of the “Dā‘iš” organization after the number of its troops have increased by around 2 to 10 thousand fighter after it had slightly increased last year. This according to his statements this month.

Aš-Šaṭrī confirmed that he was concerned following the growing numbers of “Dā‘iš” fighters through the borders with Syria during the last years.

He added: “This poses a real danger to Iraq, because Dā‘iš – either in Syria, or Iraq, or any other place around the world – because this is an organization that will surely aim to find new foothold to launch attacks”.

He pointed out that the “armed people who joined the Dā‘iš Organization in Syria during the last year include men who were allied with President Aḥmad aš-Šar‘a and are increasingly dissatisfied with the political path he is following”.

He also pointed out “that tensions between the foreign fighters who were within the ranks of aš-Šar‘a, and their number are in the thousands, have increased, as the government forces started arrest operations”.
