The Algerian “Sonatrach” and the Spanish “Natorgi” signed an agreement in the Algerian capital about revising the selling price of natural gas via the “Midgas” pipeline.
The Algerian “Sonatrach” and the Spanish “Natorgi” signed an agreement on Thursday in the Algerian capital about revising the selling price of the natural gas via the “Midgas” pipeline that connects the two countries under the Mediterranean Sea.
The Algerian Oil and Gas Complex in a statement: “the Sonatrach and their partner Natorgi agreed to revise the prices of the current long-term export contracts in light of the current market developments, reserving the balance of the routine contracts on the basis of mutual profit”.
In a statement, the “Natorgi” confirmed signing the agreement without any notion about the details.
Sonatrach General Director Tawfīq Ḥakkār in a statement published by the international Algerian tv channel said: “the agreement that was signed stipulates the revision of prices more going along the global market prices”. Thus also pointing out that there “the negotiations were hard, tiring and lasted for some 10 because of the lack of clarity in the market and at the end we hammered out an agreement to revise the contracts lasting for 3 years”.
He added: “By these contracts that tie it to Natorgi, Sonatrach exported in the last decade more than 83 billion cubic meters of natural gas to its clients in the Spanish market. That contributed to the strengthening of Algeria’s role as a trustworthy resource exporter in the European gas market”.
It should be pointed out that the last agreement signed between the two companies was in October 2020, which was beneficial for Natorgi. It revised all its gas import contracts after the oil and gas prices fell during the COVID-19 pandemic.
For long years Algeria was the biggest gas exporter to Spain, especially via the “Midgas” company that runs the pipeline connecting the two states. (That is 51% owned by Sonatrach and 49% by Natorgi).
However, the quantities started to fall back after the pipeline crossing Morocco got closed down, because the agreement was not renewed following the break of relations between Algiers and Rabat in August 2021.
Even the quantities exported via “Midgas” decreased because of the diplomatic turmoil between Madrid and Algiers since Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in March decided to support the Moroccan autonomy plan for Western Sahara, a former Spanish colony, so to end the diplomatic crisis between Madrid and Rabat lasting for almost a year.

وقّعت شركتا “سوناطراك” الجزائرية و”ناتورجي” الإسبانية اتفاقاً في العاصمة الجزائر، اليوم الخميس، حول مراجعة أسعار بيع الغاز عبر خط أنبوب “ميدغاز” الذي يربط البلدين عبر البحر المتوسط.
وقال عملاق النفط والغاز الجزائري، في بيان: “اتفقت سوناطراك وشريكتها ناتورجي على مراجعة أسعار عقود توريد الغاز طويلة الأمد الحالية في ظل تطورات السوق الراهنة، ضماناً لتوازن العقود المعمول بها على أساس الربح المتبادل
وأكّدت “ناتورجي”، في بيان، توقيع الاتفاق من دون الإشارة إلى تفاصيله
وقال المدير العام لـ”سوناطراك”، توفيق حكار، في تصريحٍ نقلته قناة الجزائر الدولية: “الاتفاق الذي وقّعناه اليوم ينصّ على مراجعة الأسعار تماشياً مع الأسعار في السوق العالمية”، مشيراً إلى أنّ “المفاوضات كانت شاقة ومتعبة ودامت تقريباً 10 أشهر، بسبب عدم وضوح الرؤية في السوق، وفي النهاية مضينا اتفاقية لمراجعة العقود مدّتها 3 سنوات
وأضاف: “من خلال العقود التي تربطها بناتورجي، صدّرت سوناطراك، على مدى العقد الماضي، أكثر من 83 مليار متر مكعب من الغاز لزبونها في السوق الإسبانية، ما أسهم في تعزيز دور الجزائر كمورّد موثوق فيه داخل السوق الأوروبية للغاز
يُشار إلى أنّ آخر اتفاق وُقّع بين الشركتين، في تشرين الأوّل/أكتوبر 2020، كان في صالح “ناتورجي”، التي أعادت التفاوض على جميع عقودها لاستيراد الغاز، بعد تراجع أسعار النفط والغاز بسبب جائحة “كوفيد-19
وكانت الجزائر، لأعوام طويلة، أكبر مزوّد لإسبانيا بالغاز، خصوصاً عبر شركة “ميدغاز” التي تُسيّر خط الأنابيب الرابط بين البلدين (تملك سوناطراك 51% منها وناتورجي 49%).
ولكنّ الكميات بدأت تتضاءل، بعد وقف خط الأنابيب العابر للمغرب، بسبب عدم تجديد الاتفاق إثر قطع العلاقات بين الجزائر والرباط في آب/أغسطس 2021.
وحتى الكميات المورّدة عبر “ميدغاز”، انخفضت بسبب توتر العلاقات الدبلوماسية بين مدريد والجزائر، منذ أن قرّر رئيس الوزراء الإسباني، بيدرو سانشيز، في آذار/مارس، دعم خطة الحكم الذاتي المغربية للصحراء الغربية، المستعمرة الإسبانية السابقة، لإنهاء أزمة دبلوماسية بين مدريد والرباط مستمرة منذ نحو عام
