A security source told the official Syrian SANA news agency that the preliminary investigations suggest that the explosion in the Imām ‘Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib mosque – frequented by members of the ‘Alawī community – was the result of an explosive device that had been implanted inside.

Ambulance cars rushed to the scene, while the security forces and the designated authorities immediately locked down the area, started an investigation and collecting the evidences.

This explosion came within the context of acts of aggression and sporadic attacks witnessed in the Syrian regions, as previously on 22 June 2025 an attack happened against the Church of Saint Iliyās, where an armed man attacked the church during holy mass and opened fire upon the prayers before detonating his explosive belt. That led to the killing of not less than 25 people and injuring more than 60 others.
