President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council ‘Abd al-Fattāḥ al-Burhān said that Sudan “has no desire for a clash to happen with Ethiopia, but our sovereign rights on our own lands will not be curbed by any obstacle”.
President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council ‘Abd al-Fattāḥ al-Burhān put it unlikely to wage a war against Ethiopia about the “Renaissance Dam”, pointing out that the position of his country is “the signing a legal agreement securing water and the function of the dam”.
Sudan rejected the statement by Ethiopia claiming measures for the second flooding of the dam’s reservoir in the raining season of next July before signing a binding agreement.
About the eastern borders, al-Burhān said in an interview with France 24 in Paris Monday that Sudan “has no desire for a clash to befall with Ethiopia, but our right for sovereignty over our land shall not be curbed by any obstacle”.
The Sudanese army had already reclaimed 95% of the agricultural fields, which were controlled by Ethiopian forces and militias in the last 26 years and this was done on an operation conducted along the eastern border, which started in November 2020.
Al-Burhān reflected on the refusal to hand over the demanded personnel to the International Criminal Court, which called upon Sudan to hand over the removed president ‘Umar al-Bašīr ad two of his top aides under charges of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in the region of Dārfūr.
Al-Burhān said: “We have [legislative] representatives and judges. Whenever it failed to grant justice, surely the people will look for another place to avenge the victims and thwart the criminals, but we trust in our judges and our justice system. It is sufficient to avenge those who suffered and punish the criminals”.
Egyptian President ‘Abd al-Fattāḥ as-Sīsī said in a press conference at reopening the traffic at the Suez channel after a ship blocked it last month that “the right of Egypt for the water is a red line”.
He continued: “There will be a lack of stability if any would breach the rights of Egypt for the water. Egypt’s arms are long and capable to confront any threat. Our battle is a battle of negotiations and the acts of animosity are rejected, however, no one will be able to take even a drop of water from Egypt. Whoever wants to try it, he can try. If our flow of water is affected, then the response of Egypt shall be echoed all over the region”.
It should be remembered that negotiating attempts in the Renaissance Dam case between the three countries last April failed. According to what the Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman said that time, that was caused by “the lack of political will by Ethiopia to negotiate with goodwill and its attempt of delay and procrastination”.

الجيش السوداني كان قد استعاد 95% من المساحات الزراعية التي كانت قوات ومليشيات إثيوبية تُسيطر عليها طوال 26 عاماً الفائتة، وذلك خلال عملية انتشاره في الحدود الشرقية التي بدأت في تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2020
وألمح البرهان لرفض تسليم المطلوبين للمحكمة الجنائية الدولية التي تدعو السودان إلى تسليم الرئيس المعزول عمر البشير واثنين من كبار معاونيه تتهمهم بارتكاب جرائم حرب وجرائم ضد الإنسانية في إقليم دارفور
وقال البرهان: “لدينا نيابة وقضاء، متى عجز عن إقامة العدل حتماً الناس سيبحثون عن مكان آخر ينصف الضحايا ويردع المجرمين، لكن نحن نثق في قضائنا وأجهزتنا العدلية وهي كفيلة بأن تنصف المظلومين وتعاقب المجرمين
وكان الرئيس المصري عبد الفتاح السيسي قال في مؤتمر صحفي بعد استئناف الملاحة بقناة السويس إثر تعطل سفينة فيها الشهر الماضي إن “حقوق مصر المائية خط أحمر
