Saudi State Minister for Foreign Affairs ‘Ādil al-Ğubayr confirms that China and the United States are essential partners for Saudi Arabia.

Saudi State Minister for Foreign Affairs [not Foreign Minister – Amaraia] ‘Ādil al-Ğubayr said that his country is tied by a partnership with the United States and China and confirms that Riyadh “does not have a preference for one state over the other”.

This came in an interview with the American CNBC network, from which parts were aired on Saturday morning. In this, the Saudi Minister explained the importance of his country’s relations with China, which is “the biggest trade partner of Saudi Arabia”.

About the statement by American President Joe Biden in which he said that the United State must not allow Russia and China to fill the vacuum in the Middle East al-Ğubayr said: “The policy of Riyadh is to extend bridges between the states and we want to be able to work together and be in contact with everyone. This is what we did and what we do”.

He added: “China is our biggest trading partner and a huge market for energy. China is considered to be the biggest investor in Saudi Arabia”.

Al-Ğubayr also confirmed the importance of his country’s relations with Washington saying: “The United States is also an essential partner, especially about matters linked to security and political cooperation. But also about trade and investments between the two countries”.

He continued: “Therefore we built bridges between the people. We have no preference for one state above the other”.

He added: “We have a common history and mutual interests with the United States. We also have joint current matters I have mentioned before. Like the threats in the region, either by Iran, or Yemen, or Iraq, or Syria, or Lebanon, or Africa, or to establish stability in Libya and Afghanistan, or the peace efforts”.

He pointed out: “We must deal with all these matters together with the United States. There are other matters, like piracy, energy, or the financial markets. Therefore the relations between these states are strong and stable”.

These statements come at a time the Arabic Summit is held on Saturday in the Saudi city of Jidda in the presence of Biden, but also with the participation of the state leaderships of Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, the Sultanate of Oman, Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq.

This is the first visit taken by Biden to Saudi Arabia since he took office in January 2021, and the first time an American President directly travels from the Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv in the occupied Palestinian lands to the Saudi city of Jidda.
