Secretary-General for the Security Ministry at the “Polisario” Front Sīdī Walad Awkāl conformed to “the readiness of the Front to negotiate and with any mediation”, but he stresses that “the struggle will continue whether there are negotiations or not”.
Yesterday, on Tuesday the “Polisario Front” announced its readiness to reopen negotiations with the U.N. about the situation of “Western Sahara”, confirming at the same time that “it does not intend to stop the armed struggle”.
The Front pointed out that “in the last period we gave full trust to the international community, stopped the struggle completely and waited 30 years of false promises, commitments and boring waiting”.
Secretary-General in the Security Ministry at the Front Sīdī Walad Awkāl during a press conference on the internet in the presence of the permanent representative of the Polisario Front at the U.N. ‘Umar Sayyid Muḥammad “the readiness of the Front to negotiate with any mediation”, stressing that “for us, this struggle will go on whether there are negotiations, or not. This is built on the past experience of the Saharan people”.
The Polisario Front considers itself “in legal self-defense” since Morocco sent its forces on 13 November last year to the farthest southern point of the region to expel a group of Saharan activists, who were blocking the road leading up to neighboring Mauritania”.
The Front viewed that this way it violated the ceasefire agreement concluded in 1991 under the U.N. supervision after 15 years of the ongoing fight between the two sides.
Walad Awkāl pointed out that “this war goes on for 67 years and not one of them was free of fighting activity. Morocco hides this war”, underlining: “more than 500 fighting activities happen from its beginning”. He believed that: “The scope of the battles will grow to take up the entire region”.
Awkāl added: “The crisis will escalate. This is the beginning. This is just warming up and escalation”, stressing that “the Saharawis will return to the country to make it independent”.
It should be remembered that Morocco controls 80% of the Saharan land, which has an area of more than 266 thousand square kilometers, and to which it offers autonomy under its sovereignty.
But the “Polisario Front” demands the referendum be held to determine the fate, according to the words of the ceasefire agreement.
The negotiations held by the United Nations with the participation of Morocco and the Polisario Front and with Algeria and Mauritania as observers are still suspended since March 2019.
It should be mentioned that the leaving American President Donald Trump recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara on 10 December 2020 in exchange for Morocco normalizing its relations with the Israeli occupation.

أعلنت “جبهة البوليساريو” أمس الثلاثاء، استعدادها لاستئناف المفاوضات مع الأمم المتحدة، حول وضع “الصحراء الغربيّة”، مؤكدةً في الوقت نفسه أنها “لا تنوي وقف الكفاح المسلح
الجبهة أشارت إلى أنّه “في الفترة الماضية أعطينا ثقة كاملة للمجتمع الدولي وأوقفنا الكفاح بصفة نهائيّة وانتظرنا 30 عاماً من المماطلة والوعود الكاذبة والانتظار الممل
وأكد سيدي ولد أوكال، الأمين العام لوزارة الأمن في الجبهة، خلال مؤتمر صحافي عبر الإنترنت، بمشاركة الممثل الدائم لجبهة البوليساريو لدى الأمم المتحدة عمر سيد محمد، “استعداد الجبهة للتفاوض ولأي وساطة”، مشدداً على أنّه “بالنسبة لنا هذا الكفاح سيستمر هناك مفاوضات أو ليس هناك مفاوضات. وهذا انطلاقاً من التجربة الماضية للشعب الصحراوي
جبهة البوليساريو تعتبر نفسها “في دفاع مشروع عن النفس”، منذ أرسل المغرب في 13 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر الماضي قواته إلى أقصى جنوب المنطقة لطرد مجموعة من الناشطين الصحراويين كانوا يقطعون طريقاً مؤدياً إلى موريتانيا المجاورة
ورأت الجبهة أن هذا الطريق بني في انتهاك لوقف اطلاق النار المبرم العام 1991 برعاية الأمم المتحدة، بعد قتال دام أكثر من 15 عاماً بين الطرفين
ولد أوكال أشار إلى أنّ “هذه الحرب تقوم منذ 67 يوماً ولم يخلُ منها يوم من النشاط القتالي. والمغرب يتكتمّ على هذه الحرب”، مبرزاً “وقوع أكثر من 500 عمل قتالي منذ بدايتها”، ومتوقعاً أن “تتوسع رقعة المعارك لتشمل المنطقة برمتها
وأضاف أوكال: “سيكون تصعيد في الوتيرة. هذه البداية، هذا مجرد تسخين وسيتصاعد”، مشدداً على أنّ “الصحراويين سيعودون للبلد من أجل استقلاله
يذكر أن المغرب يسيطر على 80% من هذه الأراضي الصحراويّة التي تبلغ مساحتها 266 ألف كيلومتر مربع، ويقترح منحها حكماً ذاتياً تحت سيادته
لكن “جبهة البوليساريو” تطالب بإجراء استفتاء لتقرير المصير على النحو المنصوص عليه في اتفاقية وقف إطلاق النار
ولا تزال المفاوضات التي تجريها الأمم المتحدة بمشاركة المغرب وجبهة البوليساريو فضلاً عن الجزائر وموريتانيا بصفة مراقبين، معلّقة منذ آذار/مارس 2019
