After signing the statement of the al-‘Ulā Summit the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announces that Egypt and Qatar exchanged two agreement memorandums about reopening the diplomatic relations.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced this Wednesday that Egypt and Qatar exchanged two agreement memorandums about reopening the relations according to the vows of the al-‘Ulā Summit.
It was stated in the statement of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry: “Connected to the executive steps in the framework of the shared commitments in the al-‘Ulā statement the Arabic Republic of Egypt today, on the 20 January this year and the State of Qatar exchanged two official memorandums. Thus the two states, in essence, agreed to reopen the diplomatic relations between them”.
It should be remembered that on 5 January this year Qatar signed the Gulf Reconciliation Agreement with the Gulf states at the closure of the al-‘Ulā Summit held in Saudi Arabia. After that, it was announced by Kuwait and the Emirates that they will reopen the land, maritime and areal crossings with Qatar.
It should be remembered that Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt imposed diplomatic isolation against Qatar and cut the trade and travel lines since mid-2017 accusing it with support of terrorism. Qatar on the other hand denied this stating that the blockade aims to curb its sovereignty.

أعلنت وزارة الخارجية المصرية، اليوم الأربعاء، أنّ مصر وقطر تتبادلان مذكرتين للاتفاق على استئناف العلاقات وفق التزامات قمة العلا
وجاء في بيان الخارجية المصرية: “اتصالاً بالخطوات التنفيذية في إطار تنفيذ الالتزامات المُتبادلة الواردة ببيان العُلا، تبادلت جمهورية مصر العربية، اليوم 20 كانون الثاني/ يناير الجاري، ودولة قطر مذكرتيَّن رسميتيَّن، حيث اتفقت الدولتان بموجبهما على استئناف العلاقات الدبلوماسية بينهما
يذكر أنّه في 5 كانون الثاني/ يناير الجاري، وقعت قطر مع الدول الخليجية على اتفاقية المصالحية الخليجية في ختام قمة العلا في السعودية. إثر ذلك، أعلنت كل من الكويت والإمارات إعادة فتح المنافذ البرية والبحرية والجوية مع قطر
يذكر أن السعودية والإمارات والبحرين ومصر فرضت حظراً دبلوماسياً على قطر وقطعت روابط التجارة والسفر معها منذ منتصف عام 2017 متهمة إياها بدعم الإرهاب، بينما نفت قطر ذلك قائلةً إن الحظر يهدف لتقويض سيادتها
