Officers and military equipment of the Egyptian forces participating in the African Union mission arrive in the Somali capital Mogadishu in the first phase of a deployment that will see the concentration of some 10 thousand Egyptian soldiers in the country.

Egyptian officers and military equipment arrived in Mogadishu in the first phase of the Egyptian deployment that will see the concentration of some 10 thousand soldiers in Somalia.

Reports stated that two “C-130” type Egyptian military planes have been spotted in the international airport of Aden, which confirms the commitment of Egypt to the defense agreement that had been signed recently between Egyptian President ‘Abd al-Fattāḥ as-Sīsī and his Somali counterpart Ḥasan Šayh Maḥmūd in Cairo earlier this month.

The deployment comes in light of the growing tensions witnessed in the region, especially after the controversial memorandum of understanding between Ethiopia and Somaliland.

According to what the Reuters agency cited from 3 Somali diplomatic and governmental sources Egypt on Tuesday provided military aid to Somalia, which is the first one for 4 decades in a step that is probably complicating the tensions between the two states and Ethiopia.

The relations between Egypt and Somalia have strengthened this year after Ethiopia signed a preliminary agreement with the separatist “Somaliland” authority about renting a coastal region in exchange for recognizing the independence of the area from Somalia.

It should be remembered that military cooperation between Egypt and Somalia is part of the African Union’s mission “AMISOM” to support the stability of Somalia that is scheduled to dissolve in January 2025 and that came instead of the African Union’s transitional delegation in Somalia “ATMIS” that is currently present.

In should be remembered that the foreign minister of Egypt, Badr ‘Abd al-‘Āṭī and Somalia, Aḥmad  Mu‘allim Faqī Aḥmad had discussed the ways to strengthen the relations and to develop the joint cooperation, when ‘Abd al-‘Āṭī confirmed “the full support of Egypt for the unity of Somalia, its sovereignty and territorial integrity and rejected any intervention in its internal affairs”, pointing out “the readiness of Egypt to participate in the peacekeeping delegation in Somalia reflecting the intention of the Somali brothers”.

وصل ضباط  مع معدات عسكرية مصرية إلى مقديشو، في المرحلة الأولية من انتشارٍ مصري. سيشهد تمركز نحو 10 آلاف جندي في الصومال.

وأفادت تقارير. برصد طائرتين عسكريتين مصريتين من طراز “C-130” تهبطان في مطار عدن الدولي، ما يؤكد التزام. مصر باتفاقية دفاع تمّ توقيعها مؤخراً بين الرئيس المصري، عبد الفتاح السيسي، ونظيره. الصومالي، حسن شيخ محمود،في القاهرة، في وقتٍ سابق من هذا الشهر.

ويأتي الانتشار في ظل التوترات المتصاعدة التي تشهدها المنطقة، ولا سيما بعد مذكّرة التفاهم المثيرة للجدل بين إثيوبيا وأرض الصومال.

وبحسب ما نقلت وكالة “رويترز”، قالت 3 مصادر دبلوماسية وحكومية صومالية إن مصر. قدّمت، يوم الثلاثاء، مساعدات عسكرية للصومال هي الأولى منذ أكثر من 4 عقود في خطوة من المرجّح. أن تؤدي إلى تعميق التوترات بين البلدين وإثيوبيا.

وتعزّزت العلاقات بين مصر والصومال هذا العام بعد أن وقّعت إثيوبيا اتفاقا أوّلياً مع إدارة. “أرض الصومال” الانفصالي لاستئجار أراض ساحلية مقابل الاعتراف باستقلال الإقليم عن الصومال.

يذكر أن التعاون العسكري بين مصر والصومال هو جزء من بعثة الاتحاد الأفريقي “أوسوم” لدعم. واستقرار الصومال، والتي من المقرّر أن تحلّ، في كانون الثاني/يناير 2025، بدلاً من بعثة. الاتحاد الأفريقي الانتقالية في الصومال “أتميس” الموجودة حالياً. 

يذكر أنّ وزيرَي خارجيتي مصر، بدر عبد العاطي، والصومال، أحمد معلم فقي أحمد، بحثا سبل تعزيز العلاقات وتطوير. التعاون المشترك، حيث أكد عبد العاطي “دعم مصر الكامل لوحدة الصومال وسيادته على أراضيه ورفض أي تدخّل في شؤونه الداخلية”، مبرزاً “استعداد مصر للمشاركة في بعثة حفظ السلام في الصومال بما يعكس رغبة الأشقاء الصوماليين
