A French military source confirms the dismissal of Director of the French Military Intelligence General Eric Vidaud from his post, following French admission of the failure of the intelligence service.
Director of the French Military Intelligence General Eric Vidaud was relieved of his position after believing the shortcomings of the Russian military operations in Ukraine.
A military source confirmed that the Director of Military Intelligence (DRM) will immediately leave his position, thus confirming the information posted by the “Le Opinion” website.
The website cited a source in the Defense Ministry saying that what prompted this dismissal was “insufficient briefings” and “weakness of handling matters”.
The military source said that the Military Intelligence under the auspices of the army leadership since the beginning of the military operations in Ukraine.
The source added that the Military Intelligence “held military debriefings about the operations and not about intentions”. Explaining that its reports concluded that Russia has sufficient means for “a raid on Ukraine”, and “what happened proved that it was right”.
According to another source the news about the dismissal of the leading general was spreading for days within the army, but then it was claimed he is assuming another role. In the end, this did not happen”.
On its own behalf, a source close to the matter confirmed that “this change cannot be attributed to the Ukrainian situation alone, as the question goes back to the structure of the services”.
General Vidaud was appointed last summer to his last position coming from the Special Operations Command, but his appointment caused an uproar within the military community, as some believed that it happened within a position swap between the generals.
France “failed”
During this March after the Russian military operation in Ukraine Chief of Staff of the Army General Thierry Burkhard stated to “Le Monde” magazine that there are disagreements in the assessment between the French and the Americans about the Russian military operation.
In this context intelligence specialist at the Paris Institute for Political Studies, Alexandre Paminoel explained that “the American intelligence used intelligence information as a pressure tool, which represents an intelligence method to conduct a political contact”.
At that time he claimed that “the Americans said that the Russians will attack and they were right. While on the contrary, our services believed that the intervention in Ukraine will have huge costs and the Russians have other options”.
He added: “France does the same thing. It says internally, within the (intelligence) community, yet for the rest of the world, it failed”.
Despite all this Paminoel believed that the Military Intelligence cannot face the blame alone, which particularly lacks sufficient material, which is a problem in itself in its service organization.
The researcher concluded that “the warning is sent to the whole (intelligence) community. They have to be active and mindful with all threats”.

مصدر عسكري فرنسي يؤكّد إعفاء مدير الاستخبارات العسكرية الجنرال إريك فيدو من منصبه، عقب اعتراف فرنسي بفشل المنظومة الاستخبارية
أعفي مدير الاستخبارات العسكرية الفرنسية الجنرال إريك فيدو من منصبه، على خلفية ما اعتُبر تقصيراً في ما يتعلق بالعملية العسكرية الروسية في أوكرانيا.
وأكّد مصدر عسكري أنّ مدير الاستخبارات العسكرية “دي آر إم” سيغادر منصبه فوراً، مثبتاً بذلك معلومة أوردها موقع “لوبينيون”.
ونقل الموقع عن مصدر في وزارة الجيوش قوله إنّ الدافع لهذه الإقالة هو “عدم كفاية الإحاطات” و”ضعف التمكّن من الملفات”.
وقال مصدر عسكري إنّ الاستخبارات العسكرية كانت في مرمى قيادة الجيش منذ بدء العملية العسكرية قي أوكرانيا.
وأضاف المصدر أنّ الاستخبارات العسكرية “تجري استعلامات عسكرية بشأن العمليات وليس بشأن النيّات”، موضحاً أنّ تقاريرها خلصت إلى أنّ روسيا لديها الوسائل الكافية “لغزو أوكرانيا” و”ما حدث أثبت أنّها كانت على حقّ”.
وبحسب مصدر عسكري آخر، فإنّ خبر إعفاء الضابط الكبير انتشر منذ أيام داخل الجيش، لكن سرى حديث عن منحه منصباً آخر، وهو ما لم يحصل في نهاية المطاف.
من جانبه، أكّد مصدر قريب من الملف أنّه “لا يمكن نسب هذا التغيير إلى الوضع الأوكراني فقط، إنّها أيضاً مسألة إعادة تنظيم للجهاز”.
وعُيّن الجنرال فيدو في المنصب في الصيف الماضي قادماً من قيادة العمليات الخاصة، لكنّ تعيينه أحدث ضجة داخل المجتمع العسكري، لأنّ البعض اعتبر أنه تمّ في إطار عملية تدوير مناصب بين جنرالات.
فرنسا “فشلت”
وفي مطلع آذار/ مارس، بُعيد بدء العملية العسكرية الروسية في أوكرانيا، أقرّ رئيس أركان الجيش الجنرال تييري بوركار لصحيفة “لوموند” بوجود اختلافات في التحليل بين الفرنسيين والأميركيين بشأن العملية العسكرية الروسية.
وفي هذا الصدد، أوضح المتخصّص في شؤون الاستخبارات في معهد الدراسات السياسية في باريس، ألكسندر بابيمانويل، أنّ “الاستخبارات الأميركية استخدمت المعلومات الاستخبارية وسيلة للضغط، وهذا يمثل عودة الاستخبارات ركيزة للتواصل السياسي”.
وصرّح يومها بأنّ “الأميركيين قالوا إنّ الروس سيهاجمون، لقد كانوا على حقّ. على العكس من ذلك، اعتقدت أجهزتنا أنّ التدخل في أوكرانيا ستكون له تكلفة باهظة، وأنّ الروس لديهم خيارات أخرى”.
وأضاف: “فرنسا تفعل الشيء نفسه. إنّها تقول داخلياً، داخل المجتمع (الاستخباري) ولباقي العالم، إنّها فشلت”.
ومع ذلك، اعتبر بابيمانويل أنّه لا يمكن توجيه اللوم فقط إلى الاستخبارات العسكرية، التي تعاني خصوصاً من عدم كفاية الموارد ومن مشكلة في صورتها وفي تنظيم أجهزتها.
