A meeting between the Turkish and the Syrian presidents, in which the strengthening of the cooperation between the two countries was confirmed and the support for the reconstruction of Syria and the work for achieving security and stability fighting against terrorism and discussing the joint steps against the Kurdish militants.

After his visit to Saudi Arabia on Monday Syrian President Aḥmad aš-Šar‘a travelled to Türkiye on Tuesday to meet President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, after which a joint press conference was held.
After the official Syrian-Turkish split for more than a decade Erdoğan said in the press conference that “this historic meeting is the beginning of the cooperation and improvement of relations between Türkiye and Syria”.
He added that it is necessary to establish security and safety in Syria and “we have agreed to take the necessary steps to achieve this”, pointing out that his country “is ready to support the reconstruction of the destroyed cities in Syria and we will set up an area completely without terrorism”.
The Turkish President pointed out that he have discussed with aš-Šar‘a the political developments and said: “we believe that the new administration of Syria will host all Syrians”.
Erdoğan viewed that all Islamist states must support Syria and “it is important to continue this support, we are pleased with all states that are supporting Syria and its renaissance”. He confirmed: “we will work on lifting all the sanctions against it”.
He revealed that he discussed with aš-Šar‘a taking steps against the Kurdish militants in Northeastern Syria.

On his behalf Syrian President Aḥmad aš-Šar‘a confirmed that “the Syrian people will not forget that Türkiye stood with them”, adding that “the relations between Syria and Türkiye spread over history and geography”.
Aš-Šar‘a said: “We have started the work with Türkiye in the major matters with building a joint strategy to combat the security challenges”.
The sources of Reuters supposed that the agreement between the two sides might allow Türkiye to set up new air bases in Syria and to use the Syrian airspace for military purposes, and also to take a leading role in the training of the forces of the new Syrian army, adding that “in is not probable that the deal would be closed on Tuesday”.
A Syrian regional intelligence and security official and one of the foreign security sources residing in Damascus said that the negotiations included “setting up two Turkish bases in vast Syrian desert area in the middle of the country known as the Syrian Desert”.

من جهته، أكّد الرئيس السوري، أحمد الشرع، أنّ “الشعب السوري لن ينسى وقفة تركيا معه”، مضيفاً أنّ “العلاقة. بين سوريا وتركيا ممتدة عبر التاريخ والجغرافيا”.
