Saudi Crown Prince Muḥammad ibn Salmān and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan study how to improve the relations and the investments between the two states and implement the signed agreements between them in the field of defense cooperation.
During the talks in Ankara on Tuesday Turkey and Saudi Arabia confirmed their intention to begin a new era of joint cooperation at a time, when the two countries witness a full normalization of relations between themselves, which saw a collapse after the murder of a Saudi journalist Ğamāl Hāšuqğī.
In a joint statement after the talks between Saudi Crown Prince Muḥammad ibn Salmān and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the two sides said that they studied the ways to improve the relations and the investments in the energy, defense, and other sectors.
In the statement, they confirmed that they agreed to “implement the signed agreements between themselves in the fields of defense cooperation in a way to serve the interest of both countries and contribute to guaranteeing the safety and stability of the region”.
Also, the two states expressed their intention for “working towards improving the projects in the energy sector” and making trade easier, but also study the investments opportunities and increase the contacts transforming it into tangible partnerships”.
The two sides announced “the agreement about activating the works of the Saudi-Turkish Cooperation Council and increasing the level of cooperation in the mutually important matters”.
Saudi Crown Prince Muḥammad ibn Salmān arrived in Turkey on Tuesday in his first official visit to the country after 9 years following disagreements caused by the assassination of Saudi journalist Ğamāl Hāšuqğī in Istanbul.
The first phase of the reconciliation has already happened at the end of April when Erdoğan visited Saudi Arabia and with the Crown Prince discussed the ways to “improve” the relations between the two countries.
Three weeks before that the Turkish courts decided a reservation about the assassination case of opposition journalist Ğamāl Hāšuqğī, who wrote articles for the Washington Post. He was murdered in October 2018 at the consulate of his country in Istanbul.

ولي العهد السعودي محمد بن سلمان والرئيس التركي رجب طيب إردوغان يبحثان تحسين العلاقات والاستثمار بين البلدين وتفعيل الاتفاقيات الموقّعة بينهما في مجالات التعاون الدفاعي
أكدت تركيا والسعودية خلال محادثات في أنقرة، اليوم الأربعاء، عزمهما على بدء حقبة جديدة من التعاون المشترك، في الوقت الذي يستهدف البلدان التطبيع الكامل للعلاقات بينهما، التي كانت انهارت بعد مقتل الصحافي السعودي جمال خاشقجي.
وفي بيان مشترك عقب المحادثات بين ولي العهد السعودي محمد بن سلمان، والرئيس التركي رجب طيب إردوغان، قال الطرفان إنّهما بحثا تحسين العلاقات والاستثمار في قطاعات الطاقة والدفاع وغيرهما.
وأكدا في البيان اتفاقهما على “تفعيل الاتفاقيات الموقّعة بينهما في مجالات التعاون الدفاعي بشكل يخدم مصالح البلدين، ويسهم في ضمان أمن المنطقة واستقرارها”.
كذلك، عبّرت الدولتان عن رغبتهما في “العمل على تطوير مشاريع في مجال الطاقة”، و”تسهيل التجارة والبحث عن فرص الاستثمار وزيادة التواصل لتحويلها إلى شراكات ملموسة”.
وأعلن الطرفان “الاتفاق على تفعيل عمل مجلس التنسيق السعودي-التركي، ورفع مستوى التعاون في القضايا ذات الاهتمام المشترك”.
ووصل ولي العهد السعودي محمد بن سلمان، اليوم الأربعاء، إلى تركيا، في زيارته الرسمية الأولى لهذا البلد، بعد 9 سنوات من خلافات فاقمها اغتيال الصحافي السعودي جمال خاشقجي في إسطنبول.
وكان الفصل الأول من المصالحة قد حصل في نهاية نيسان/ أبريل، عندما زار إردوغان السعودية وبحث مع ولي العهد سبل “تطوير” العلاقات بين البلدين.
وقبل ثلاثة أسابيع على ذلك، قرّر القضاء التركي التحفّظ على قضية اغتيال الصحافي المعارض جمال خاشقجي، كاتب المقالات في صحيفة “واشنطن بوست”، الذي قتل في تشرين الأول/أكتوبر 2018 في قنصلية بلاده في إسطنبول
