Director of the Iranian Atomic Energy Agency Moḥammad Eslāmī confirms that Tehran has the technical capability to produce a nuclear bomb but it does not desire to do that.
Director of the Iranian Atomic Energy Agency Moḥammad Eslāmī confirms that “Tehran has the technical capability to produce a nuclear bomb”, stressing that “this program is currently not on the work agenda”.
Eslāmī explained on Monday in his statements to the official television that “Tehran has the technical capability to produce a nuclear bomb, but it does not desire that”. Pointing out that “the efforts of the members of the Iranian Parliament focus on ratifying a comprehensive document and roadmap to develop the nuclear industry in the country in a way that the development of the nuclear industry would not see harm by the government changes in the county”.
Eslāmī underlined that “there is no complication in the joint work with the International Atomic Energy Agency”, adding that “all the capabilities and the Iranian nuclear program are under the oversight of the Agency”. Also that “the accusations that some Western parties aired against Iran are absolutely unfounded and built on the allegations of the Zionist Entity”.
Eslāmī continued: “Iran refuses to accusations aired against it once again with the aim to put pressure on it, and has already switched off all monitoring cameras connected to the nuclear agreement so that the other side may not repeat the same fantasy accusations against us”.
Eslāmī has confirmed that Tehran will not operate the cameras of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which were taken off in June, until the nuclear deal signed in 2015 is revived.
At that time he underlined that “there is no need for the cameras to stay, which were put out in the Iranian nuclear installations based on the nuclear agreement if the accusations against Iran continued”. Thus refuting the existence of any secret activities connected to the Iranian nuclear program, as the uranium enrichment “is not proceeding without coordination with the International Agency”.
On 8 June Iran said that it stopped at least two cameras belonging to the International Atomic Energy Agency from monitoring nuclear activities after some Western states proposed a draft resolution condemning Iran in front of the Safeguard Committee of the Agency in the U.N.
It should be tempered that Iran and the other parties to the nuclear agreement started negotiations in order to revive it in April 2021 in Vienna with the indirect participation of the United States and the [direct] participation of the EU.
Despite the huge progress taken at the negotiations, the nuclear consultations were suspended in March while only some final points were left between Tehran and Washington. Those involved could not make progress on the matter, especially about lifting the sanctions. The two sides returned to the negotiations in June indirectly in Doha without achieving a breakthrough.

أكّد رئيس منظمة الطاقة الذرية الإيرانية، محمد إسلامي، أنّ “لدى طهران القدرة التقنية على إنتاج قنبلة ذرية”، مشدّداً على أنّ “هذا البرنامج ليس على أجندة العمل حالياً
وأوضح إسلامي في تصريحات للتلفزيون الرسمي، اليوم الاثنين، أن “لدى طهران القدرة التقنية على إنتاج قنبلة ذرية، لكنها لا تنوي ذلك”، لافتاً إلى أنّ “تركيز أعضاء مجلس الشورى ينصب على إضفاء الشرعية على الوثيقة الشاملة وخريطة الطريق لتطوير الصناعة النووية في البلاد، بطريقة لا تتضرر معها عملية التطوير النووي بتغيير الحكومات في البلاد
وشدّد إسلامي على “عدم وجود أيّ خلل في التعامل بين منظمة الطاقة النووية والوكالة الدولية”، مضيفاً أنّ “كل القدرات والبرنامج النووي الإيراني بإشراف الوكالة”، وأنّ “الاتهامات التي توجهها الأطراف الغربية إلى إيران لا أساس لها من الصحة، ومبنية على مزاعم الكيان الصهيوني
وتابع إسلامي: “إيران ترفض أن تُوجه إليها اتهامات من جديد بهدف الضغط عليها، وقد أطفأت جميع كاميرات المراقبة التابعة للاتفاق النووي، لكي لا يكرّر الطرف الآخر اتهاماته الواهية لنا
وكان قد أكّد إسلامي أنّ طهران لن تشغّل كاميرات الوكالة الدولية للطاقة الذرية، التي أزالتها في حزيران/يونيو، حتى يجري إحياء الاتفاق النووي المبرم عام 2015.
وشدّد حينذاك على أن “لا حاجة إلى إبقاء الكاميرات التي نُصبت في المنشآت النووية الإيرانية، بناءً على الاتفاق النووي، إذا تواصلت الاتهامات ضد إيران”، نافياً وجود أيّ نشاطات سرية في البرنامج النووي الإيراني، إذ إنّ تخصيب اليورانيوم “لا يجري من دون تنسيق مع الوكالة الدولية”.
وقالت إيران، في 8 حزيران/يونيو الماضي، إنّها أوقفت العمل بكاميرتين على الأقل تابعتين للوكالة الدولية للطاقة الذرية، لمراقبة نشاطاتها النووية، بعد طرح دول غربية مشروع قرار يدينها أمام مجلس محافظي الوكالة التابعة للأمم المتحدة.
يذكر أنّ إيران والقوى المنضوية في الاتفاق بدأت مباحثات من أجل إحيائه في نيسان/أبريل 2021 في فيينا، بمشاركة غير مباشرة من جانب الولايات المتحدة، وبمشاركة الاتحاد الأوروبي.
وعلى الرغم من تحقيق تقدم كبير في المفاوضات، إلا أنه جرى تعليق المباحثات النووية، في شهر آذار/مارس الماضي، مع تبقّي نقاط تبايُن بين طهران وواشنطن، لم يتمكن المعنيون من ردم الهوّة بشأنها، خصوصاً ما يخص منها رفع العقوبات، ليعود ويُجري الجانبان، في نهاية شهر حزيران/يونيو الماضي، مباحثات غير مباشرة في الدوحة، من دون تحقيق اختراق
