The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces the approval to start operating flights between the airports of Cairo and Sana’a within the ceasefire in Yemen under U.N. auspices.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday announced that it agrees to operate flights between the international airports of Cairo and Sana’a while the two months long U.N. sponsored ceasefire is active in Yemen, which is expected to end at the beginning of June.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced via its official Facebook account that Egyptian Foreign Minister Sāmiḥ Šukrī held a telephone conversation with U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who thanked the President ‘Abd al-Fattāḥ as-Sīsī for allowing the operation of direct airplane flights between Cairo and Sana’a within the U.N. ceasefire in Yemen.
It also added that “Šukrī expressed his hope that this step will contribute to the solidification of the ceasefire and ease the sufferings of the brotherly Yemeni people, will contribute to the efforts to create stability and security to Yemen, support finding a sustainable settlement for the crisis there and bring about all the best for the Yemeni people”.
Last Monday the first commercial flight was launched to Sana’a International Airport after 6 years of being closed. This came within the U.N. cease agreement, which included allowing two flights from and to the Sana’a International Airport every week.
The Yemeni Civil Aviation and Monitoring Organization demanded the U.N. “enforce the ceasefire conditions about operating the 16 flights that had been agreed upon within the remaining part of the ceasefire to ease the suffering of the Yemeni citizens”.
A few days ago the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs at the government of Sana’a Ḥussayn al-‘Izzī announced that “daily two flights will be operated during the remaining part of the ceasefire”. Thus hoping “that it would be honored and there will be no return to the methods of sabotage and problem causing”. He also confirmed that “any breakdown can mean a return to war”.
It should be remembered that the Saudi Coalition imposed a blockade on the flights of the Sana’a airport on 9 August 2016 and stopped all civilian flights.

وزارة الخارجية المصرية تعلن الموافقة على بدء تسيير رحلات جوية بين مطاري القاهرة وصنعاء، في إطار الهدنة التي ترعاها الأمم المتحدة في اليمن
أعلنت وزارة الخارجية المصرية، أمس الإثنين، الموافقة على تسيير رحلات جوية بين مطاري القاهرة وصنعاء الدوليين، ضمن مسار هدنة الأمم المتحدة السارية في اليمن لمدة شهرين تنتهي مطلع حزيران/يونيو القادم.
وقالت وزارة الخارجية، عبر صفحتها الرسمية في “فيسبوك”، إنّ وزير الخارجية سامح شكري تلقّى اتصالاً هاتفياً من السكرتير العام للأمم المتحدة أنطونيو غوتيريش، الذي شكر رئيس الجمهورية عبد الفتاح السيسي، للسّماح بتسيير رحلات طيران مباشرة بين القاهرة وصنعاء في إطار الهدنة الأممية في اليمن.
وأضافت أنّ “شكري أعرب عن أمله في أن تُسهم تلك الخطوة في تثبيت الهدنة، وتخفيف معاناة الشعب اليمني الشقيق، والإسهام في جهود إحلال الاستقرار والأمن في اليمن، ودعم إيجاد تسوية مستدامة للأزمة هناك، وتمنيه ما فيه كل الخير للشعب اليمني”.
ويوم الإثنين الماضي، انطلقت أول رحلة تجارية من مطار صنعاء الدولي بعد 6 أعوام من التوقف، وذلك ضمن إطار اتفاق الهدنة الأممية، والتي تضمّنت السماح برحلتين جويتين من مطار صنعاء الدولي وإليه أسبوعياً.
وكانت هيئة الطيران المدني والأرصاد اليمنية طالبت الأمم المتحدة بأن “تلتزم ببنود الهدنة بتسيير الرحلات الـ16 المتفق عليها خلال الفترة المتبقية من الهدنة، للتخفيف من معاناة المواطنين اليمنيين”.
ومنذ أيام، أعلن نائب وزير الخارجية في حكومة صنعاء، حسين العزي، أنّه “سيتم تسيير رحلتين يومياً خلال ما تبقّى من الهدنة”، آملاً “الوفاء بذلك وعدم العودة إلى سلوك الإعاقة والعرقلة”، مؤكداً أنّ “أيّ تعطيل قد يعني العودة إلى الحرب”.
يذكر أنّ التحالف السعودي فرض في 9 آب/أغسطس 2016 حظراً على حركة الطيران في مطار صنعاء، وأوقف جميع الرحلات المدنية
