The Bahraini authorities launch a widespread crackdown and arrest campaign targeting a large number of the religious scholars within a new security escalation that has included members of the most prominent religious establishments. This is within an ongoing crackdown against the religious leaders in the country.

Bahrain witnesses a widespread security escalation that takes form in the authorities launching an intensive crackdown and arrest campaigns against a large number of the Shia religious scholars in the country.

Within this campaign the Bahraini authorities have arrested religious scholars and professors of the most prominent religious education establishments, His Eminence aš-Šayh Maḥmūd al-‘Ālī, His Eminence aš-Šayh Muḥammad Ṣanqūr and His Eminence aš-Šayh ‘Alī aṣ-Ṣadadī.

The list of arrestees also included aš-Šayh Ğāsim al-Hayyāṭ, aš-Šayh Munīr al-Ma‘tūq, aš-Šayh Rā’id as-Satrī, aš-Šayh ‘Alī Ḥamdān, aš-Šayh Ayyūb al-Baḥraynī and aš-Šayh ‘Īsā al-Mu’min.

The arrests have also included aš-Šayh ‘Alī Raḥma, aš-Šayh Hānī al-Bannā’, aš-Šayh Fāḍil az-Zākī, aš-Šayh ‘Alī al-Muttaġawī, aš-Šayh Ġāzī as-Sammāk, aš-Šayh Ğawād aš-Šaybāni, aš-Šayh ‘Alī Sanad, aš-Šayh Ḥasan al-Maḥrūs, as-Sayyid Ṣādiq al-Mālikī, aš-Šayh ‘Alī Nāğī, as-Sayyid Ḥussayn al-Karānī and aš-Šayh Ḥasan aṣ-Ṣayba‘ī.

Within the frame of this ongoing campaign that targets the religious community, the authorities have also arrested aš-Šayh Ğāsim al-Mu’min, aš-Šayh Raḍī l-Qaffāṣ, aš-Šayh Ḥāmid ‘Āšūr, aš-Šayh Muḥammad al-Harsī and aš-Šayh Ṣādiq al-‘Āfiya. The Bahraini authorities have also arrested two of the sons of religious leader aš-Šayh ‘Īsā Qāsim.

This security measure comes within the political frame of continuous crackdown orchestrated by Manama against the religious scholars.

The Bahraini al-Wifāq: the government must stop the plans to target members of the al-Ğa‘farī religious community

Few days prior the National Islamic al-Wifāq League stated that what the statement of the Bahraini Interior Ministry issued on 6 May 2026 held “gives permission for a security campaign on sectarian basis”, demanding the Bahraini government “to immediately stop all what its plans, targeting the members of the al-Ğa‘farī community”.

The League in a statement issued upon the statement of the Ministry of Interior that the statement “included accusations and suppositions on sectarian and historical basis”, expressing that this reveals “a deep existential crisis about the security perception about other communities”.

It believed that the Interior Ministry’s statement “mixed up a certain event, or case and the indigenous presence of the al-Ğa‘farī religious community as a whole”. Thus expressing that this “is a deep and dangerous shortcoming” that is incompatible with the need for “stability and reassurances for the people of Bahrain”.

Earlier the Islamic National al-Wifāq League condemned the step of the Bahraini authorities revoking the citizenship of 69 citizens, including religious scholars, activists union members and community leaders including men and women from various age ranges, also including children under the charge of “sympathizing with Iran”.

السلطات البحرينية تشنّ حملة مداهمات واعتقالات واسعة استهدفت عدداً كبيراً من علماء الدين، في تصعيد أمني جديد شمل شخصيات حوزوية بارزة، وسط استمرار ملاحقة الرموز الدينية في البلاد

تشهد البحرين تصعيداً أمنياً واسعاً تمثّل في إطلاق السلطات حملة مداهمات واعتقالات مكثّفة طالت عدداً كبيراً من علماء الدين الشيعة في البلاد.

وفي سياق هذه الحملة، اعتقلت السلطات البحرينية علماء الدين والأستاذ في الحوزة العلمية، العلّامة الشيخ محمود العالي، العلّامة الشيخ محمد صنقور، والعلّامة الشيخ علي الصددي

كما شملت قائمة المعتقلين كلاً من الشيخ جاسم الخياط، الشيخ منير المعتوق، الشيخ رائد الستري، الشيخ علي حميدان، الشيخ أيوب البحراني، والشيخ عيسى المؤمن

وامتدّت رقعة الاعتقالات لتشمل أيضاً الشيخ علي رحمة، الشيخ هاني البناء، الشيخ فاضل الزاكي، الشيخ علي المتغوي، الشيخ غازي السماك، الشيخ محمد جواد الشهابي، الشيخ علي سند، الشيخ حسين المحروس، السيد صادق المالكي، الشيخ علي ناجي، السيد حسين الكراني، والشيخ علي حسن الصيبعي

وفي إطار هذه الحملة المتواصلة التي تستهدف المكوّن الديني، اعتقلت السلطات كذلك، الشيخ جاسم المؤمن، الشيخ رضي القفاص، الشيخ حامد عاشور، الشيخ جميل العالي، الشيخ محمد الخرسي، والشيخ صادق العافية. كذلك، اعتقلت السلطات البحرينية اثنين من أبناء المرجع الشيخ عيسى قاسم

ويأتي هذا التحرّك الأمني في سياق سياسة التضييق المستمرة التي تنتهجها المنامة بحقّ علماء الدين.

الوفاق البحرينية: على الحكومة التوقّف عن مخططات استهداف أبناء المذهب الجعفري 

وقبل أيام، صرّحت جمعية الوفاق الوطني الإسلامية بأنّ ما تضمّنه بيان وزارة الداخلية البحرينية الصادر بتاريخ 6 أيار/مايو 2026 “يعطي إيذاناً بحملة أمنية على أسس مذهبية”، مطالبة الحكومة البحرينية “بالتوقّف الفوري عن كلّ ما يُخطّط له من استهدافات لأبناء المذهب الجعفري”.

وأضافت الجمعية، في بيان صدر على خلفيّة بيان وزارة الداخلية، أنّ البيان “حمل اتهامات وتوهّمات على أسس مذهبية وتاريخية”، معتبرة أنه يكشف عن “أزمة وجودية عميقة تُعبّر عن عقيدة أمنية تجاه المكوّنات الأخرى”.

ورأت أنّ بيان الداخلية “خلط بين حدث أو قضية محدّدة ووجود أصيل لأبناء المذهب الجعفري بشكل عامّ”، معتبرة أنّ ذلك “خلل عميق وخطير” لا ينسجم مع الحاجة إلى “استقرار وطمأنة أبناء البحرين

وفي وقتٍ سابق، دانت جمعية الوفاق الوطني الإسلامية إقدام السلطات البحرينية على سحب جنسيات 69 مواطناً، من بينهم علماء دين ومنشدون وقوى مهنية واجتماعية من رجال ونساء ومن مختلف الأعمار، من بينهم أطفال، بتهمة “التعاطف مع إيران
