The Bahraini House of Representatives votes in favor of revoking the mandate of 3 MPs after their parliamentary interventions calling for the King of Bahrain to overrule the decisions to revoke the citizenship of Bahraini citizens after they were charged with compassion with Iran.

On Thursday the Bahraini House of Representatives voted in favor of canceling the mandate of 3 MPs, after their parliamentary interventions calling upon the King of Bahrain to overrule the decisions taking away the citizenship of Bahraini citizens for charges of “compassion with Iran”.

The decree included the first Deputy of the Speaker of the Parliament ‘Abd an-Nabī Salmān, Director of the Service Committee Mamdūḥ aṣ-Ṣāliḥ and MP Mahdī aš-Šawīh. This came after the Parliament approved a motion endorsed by 37 MPs, which was supported by the Legality and Legal Committee.

According to the official Bahraini Gazette the motion was based on article 99 of the constitution and the internal rules of the House of Representatives concerning details about revoking mandates if that was voted upon by name during a session.

The matter is rooted in a session held on 28 April 2026, during which the Judicial Authority Law was discussed, as the three MPs raised criticism against the measure taken against those charged with sympathizing with Iran, including taking away the citizenship from a number of citizens.

وشمل القرار النائب الأول لرئيس المجلس عبد النبي سلمان، ورئيس لجنة الخدمات ممدوح الصالح، والنائب مهدي الشويخ، وذلك عقب موافقة المجلس على طلب تقدم به 37 نائباً وأيدته لجنة الشؤون التشريعية والقانونية.

وبحسب صحف بحرينية رسمية، استند القرار إلى المادة 99 من الدستور وأحكام اللائحة الداخلية لمجلس النواب المتعلقة بالجزاءات المترتبة على الإخلال بواجبات العضوية، فيما جرى التصويت نداءً بالاسم خلال الجلسة.

وتعود القضية إلى جلسة عقدها المجلس في الـ28 من نيسان/أبريل 2026 خلال مناقشة تعديل قانون السلطة القضائية، حيث وجّه النواب الثلاثة انتقادات للإجراءات المتخذة بحق متهمين بالتعاطف مع إيران، بما في ذلك إسقاط الجنسية عن عدد من المواطنين
