Algerian Foreign Minister Ramṭān La‘māmara visits the Syrian capital Damascus in his first visit for years and during that meets Syrian President Baššār al-Asad and his counterpart Fayṣal al-Miqdād.
An insightful source to the Sputnik agency told on Saturday that Algerian Foreign Minister Ramṭān La‘māmara will arrive in the Syrian capital Damascus on Sunday in his first visit there for years.
The source mentioned that the Algerian Foreign Minister is coming from Iraq to lead a high-level delegation and he will meet his Syrian counterpart Fayṣal al-Miqdād.
The source presumed that La‘māmara will meet Syrian President Baššār al-Asad, adding that the Algerian-Syrian talks will concentrate on the Arab League Summit about to be held in Algiers and the bilateral ties between the two countries.
Syrian Foreign Minister Fayṣal al-Miqdād has already visited Algiers at the beginning of July, where he took part in the 60th Anniversary celebrations of the Algerian independence, and there he met with Algerian President ‘Abd al-Mağīd Tabbūn and his foreign minister.
In Algiers al-Miqdād told al-Mayadeen that Algeria is devoted to “the participation of Syria in all the activities of the Arab League”, confirming that the relations of Algeria with Damascus “is a historical, deep and strong one”.
Before that La‘māmara had announced that Algeria will take all its efforts for inclusivity and to strengthen the Arab ties, confirming that Syria is a founding member of the League of Arab States and has to return to its active seat there.
It should be mentioned that the League of Arab States in November 2011 froze Syria’s membership as a result of the war that broke out there.
Military Advisor to the Arab League’s Secretary-General Maḥmūd Halīfa in February confirmed that Syria’s return to the League “will be soon”.

وزير الخارجية الجزائري رمطان لعمامرة يزور العاصمة السورية دمشق، في زيارة هي الأولى له منذ سنوات، يلتقي فيها الرئيس السوري بشار الأسد ونظيره فيصل المقداد
قال مصدر مطلع لـ”سبوتنيك”، أمس السبت، إن وزير الخارجية الجزائري رمطان لعمامرة سيصل إلى العاصمة السورية دمشق، اليوم الأحد، في زيارة هي الأولى منذ سنوات.
وذكر المصدر أنّ وزير الخارجية الجزائري القادم من العراق، على رأس وفد رفيع المستوى، سيلتقي نظيره السوري فيصل المقداد.
وتوقع المصدر أن يلتقي لعمامرة الرئيس السوري بشار الأسد، مضيفاً أنّ المباحثات السورية الجزائرية ستركز على القمة العربية المرتقبة في الجزائر والعلاقات الثنائية بين البلدين.
وكان وزير الخارجية السوري فيصل المقداد قد زار العاصمة الجزائر، بداية تموز/يوليو الجاري، حيث شارك في احتفالات الجزائر بالذكرى الستين لاستقلال البلاد، والتقى الرئيس الجزائري عبد المجيد تبون ووزير الخارجية.
وقال المقداد للميادين من الجزائر إنّ الأخيرة حريصة على أن “تُشارك سوريا في جميع نشاطات الجامعة العربية”، مؤكّداً أنّ علاقة الجزائر بدمشق “تاريخية وعميقة وقوية”.
وسبق أن أعلن لعمامرة أنّ الجزائر ستبذل قصارى جهدها للم الشمل وتقوية الروابط العربية، مؤكداً أنّ سوريا عضو مؤسس في جامعة الدول العربية ويجب أن تعود إلى شغل مقعدها فيها.
يُذكر أن مجلس الجامعة العربية جمّد، في تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2011، عضوية سوريا، على خلفية الحرب التي اندلعت فيها.
وأكّد المستشار العسكري للأمين العام لجامعة الدول العربية محمود خليفة، في شباط/فبراير الماضي، أنّ عودة سوريا إلى مقعدها في الجامعة “ستكون قريبة”
