Syrian Foreign Minister Fayṣal al-Miqdād confirms that his country will not remain beyond the Arab League framework and points out the depth of the relations that joins Damascus and Algiers.

On Thursday Syrian Foreign Minister Fayṣal al-Miqdād confirmed to al-Mayadeen that Algeria is dedicated to “Syria’s participation in all activities of the Arab League”.

Al-Miqdād pointed out that “it is unnatural that Syria would stay out of the Arab League framework”, adding: “We remain deep within the Arab consciousness”.

The Syrian Foreign Minister from Algeria said that the latter’s relationship with Damascus is “a historical, deep and strong one”.

The Syrian Foreign Minister added to al-Mayadeen: “The enemy must be distinguished from the friend so Syria could go on to have strong bilateral ties with the Arab countries on a wider horizon”.

The visit by al-Miqdād to Algeria, which is the first one there since to he took office came in the context of participating in the 60. anniversary celebrations for Algeria’s independence, which celebrates this occasion under the slogan “Glorious past and a new era”.

Secretary-General of the Arab League Aḥmad Abū l-Ġayṭ had said previously that Syria “might return to the League during the next summit in case an Arabic understanding took place about the draft proposal”. Thus pointing out the desire by many states for that.

It should be remembered that the Syrian Foreign Minister had also said before that the decision to oust his country from the Arab League “is not by Arabic consensus” and there are circumstances that led to the decision to oust it from the League.
