In the first elections Algeria witnesses since the beginning of the Popular Movement
the Algerian citizens today head to the poll boxes to cast their votes.
The Algerian legislative elections have started under the slogan “The dawn of change”, amidst increased security measures.
More than 24 million Algerian voters cast their votes in the first parliamentary elections the country witnesses since the beginning of the Popular Movement.
The Algerians expect a different parliament from what it was before in the sense of political and legislative presence to pass laws raising the living standards and lead the country out of the economic crisis.
Algerian President ‘Abd al-Mağīd Tabbūn announced after casting his vote: “There is acceptance for the ballot box and a minority cannot enforce its logic upon the rest of the people”. He also said that there will be another date for the provincial and municipality elections.
Tabbūn confirmed that the citizen is “the supreme lord of decision” on 12 June to choose his representatives in the next National Assembly.
Tabbūn issued his instructions about the necessity “to protect the voice of every citizen to overcome the previous behaviors, which by its nature affected the trust of the citizen in its institutions”.
He also said that there is an event “counts to be the first chance for the youth and those put down in the past so that they become the representatives of the youth especially under circumstances of the rule of the corrupt and non-corrupt wealth in the election process”. It also represents, as he said “real representation for the citizens”.
This comes after the early legislative elections ended in Algeria on the delivery ballots level in the Algerian provinces, while at the same time the election process has started for the diaspora abroad via the various Algerian consulates around the world.
The legislative elections witness the participation of 1483 lists, out of which are 646 party lists and 873 independent candidates.
These elections count to be the firsts since the peaceful popular protest movement started on 22 February 2019 renouncing the candidacy of the previous president, ‘Abd al-‘Azīz Būtaflīqa for the fifth term, hence he was forced to step down two months later.
‘Abd al-Mağīd Tabbūn won the presidential elections in 2019 with 58,15% of the votes, this becoming president for his first term.
In November 2020 the independent elections committee in Algeria announced its decision to enact take a constitutional amendment after it gained 66.8% support by a national referendum.

في أول انتخابات برلمانية تشهدها الجزائر منذ اندلاع الحراك الشعبي، المواطنون الجزائريون يتوجهون اليوم إلى صناديق الاقتراع للإدلاء بأصواتهم
انطلقت الانتخابات التشريعية الجزائرية تحت شعار “فجر التغيير” وسط اجراءات أمنية مشددة
ويدلي أكثر من 24 مليون ناخب جزائري بأصواتهم في أول انتخابات برلمانية تشهدها البلاد منذ اندلاع الحراك الشعبي
ويتطلّع الجزائريون إلى برلمان يختلف عن سابقه في الحضور السياسي والتشريعي لقوانين ترفع من مستوى المعيشة وتخرج البلاد من الأزمة الاقتصادية
وأعلن الرئيس الجزائري عبد المجيد تبون بعد تصويته: “هناك إقبال على صناديق الاقتراع ولا يمكن لأقلية أن تفرض منطقها على بقية الشعب”. وقال إنه سيكون هناك موعد آخر مع الانتخابات الولائية والبلدية
وكان تبون أكد أن المواطن هو “صاحب القرار السيد” يوم 12 حزيران/ يونيو لاختيار ممثليه في المجلس الشعبي الوطني القادم
وأصدر تبون تعليماته بضرورة “حماية صوت كل مواطن، لتجاوز الممارسات السابقة التي من شأنها المساس بثقة المواطن في مؤسساته
كما أكد أنّ هذا الاستحقاق يعد “فرصة أولى للشباب والمستضعفين مادياً، ليكونوا ممثلين عن الشعب لا سيما في ظل استبعاد المال الفاسد وغير الفاسد من العملية الانتخابية”و هو ما يجسّد، كما قال “تحقيق تمثيل حقيقي للمواطن
يأتي ذلك في بعد انتهاء عملية التصويت في الانتخابات التشريعية المبكّرة في الجزائر على مستوى المكاتب المتنقلة في المحافظات الجزائرية، بالتزامن مع إطلاق عملية التصويت لأبناء الجالية في الخارج من خلال مختلف الممثليات القنصلية الجزائرية في العالم
وستشهد الانتخابات التشريعية مشاركة 1483 قائمة، منها 646 قائمة حزبية و837 قائمة لمرشحين أحرار
وتعتبر هذه الانتخابات الأولى منذ انطلاق حركة الاحتجاجات الشعبية السلمية في 22 شباط/ فبراير 2019، رفضاً لترشح الرئيس السابق، عبد العزيز بوتفليقة لولاية خامسة، إذ اضطر للاستقالة بعد شهرين
و فاز عبد المجيد تبون في الانتخابات الرئاسية عام 2019 بنسبة 58,15 بالمئة من الأصوات، ليصبح رئيسا من الدورة الأولى
وفي تشرين الثاني/ نوفمبر 2020 أعلنت اللجنة المستقلة للانتخابات في الجزائر إقرار التعديلات الدستورية بعد نيلها 66.8% في الاستفتاء الشعبي.
