A Turkish official says that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will take an official visit to Riyadh next Thursday after two weeks Turkey closed the legal case against those who committed the crime of murdering journalist Ğamāl Hāšuqğī.
A Turkish official told the “Agance France Press” that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will take an official visit to Riyadh next Thursday.
The visit by Erdoğan to Saudi Arabia will be his first visit to the kingdom since the murder of the Saudi journalist Ğamāl Hāšuqğī in 2018 within the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, which led to a diplomatic turmoil between the two countries.
This comes at a time, when Turkey aims to attract investments to help overcome its economic crisis, thus turning the page of disagreements with Riyadh, by turning the [murder] case over to Riyadh and removing the last obstacle on the way to restoring relations.
For the years, which overshadowed the assassination of Hāšuqğī Riyadh tried on unofficial ways to put pressure on Ankara economically and boycotted the Turkish exports.
Last year Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavušoğlu visited Riyadh in an attempt to repair the relations with the kingdom.
At the beginning of this April Turkey held the last round of the absentee court sessions against the 26 accused in the case of murdering Saudi journalist Ğamāl Hāšuqğī in the country’s consulate in Istanbul by turning over the case to Riyadh with a decree of accepting the reasonings of the legal authorities.
The Deputy Director of the Middle East division at the Human Rights Watch Michael Page said that handing over the case “will increase the ongoing criticism against the Saudi authorities, as it seems that it can commit murder operations and evade the punishment”.
Five people were sentenced to be executed in the kingdom for the murder of Hāšuqğī, but in September 2020 a court in Riyadh issued a final verdict in the case and sentenced 8 civilians to prison sentences between 7 and 20 years reversing the execution sentences after secret legal procedures.

مسؤول تركي يقول إنّ الرئيس التركي رجب طيب أردوغان سيقوم بزيارة رسمية إلى الرياض الخميس المقبل، بعد أسبوعين من إغلاق تركيا لملف محاكمة مرتكبي جريمة قتل الصحافي جمال خاشقجي
أعلن مسؤول تركي لوكالة “فرانس برس” أنّ الرئيس التركي رجب طيب أردوغان سيقوم الخميس المقبل بزيارة رسمية إلى الرياض.
وستكون زيارة إردوغان إلى السعودية أوّل زيارة له إلى المملكة منذ مقتل الصحافي السعودي جمال خاشقجي في العام 2018 داخل القنصلية السعودية في اسطنبول، والتي أدّت إلى توتّر العلاقات الدبلوماسية بين البلدين.
يأتي ذلك في وقت تسعى تركيا لجذب استثمارات تساعدها على تجاوز أزمتها الاقتصادية، من خلال طيّ صفحة الخلاف مع الرياض، ومن شأن إحالة القضية إلى الرياض أن تزيل آخر عقبة في طريق عودة العلاقات.
وعلى مدى السنوات التي تلت اغتيال خاشقجي، سعت الرياض بشكل غير رسمي إلى الضغط على أنقرة اقتصادياً، فقاطعت الواردات التركية.
والعام الماضي، زار وزير الخارجية التركي مولود جاويش أوغلو الرياض في محاولة لترميم العلاقات مع المملكة.
وأجرت تركيا، مطلع نيسان/أبريل الجاري، المرحلة الأخيرة من المحاكمة الغيابية لـ26 مشتبهاً بهم في قضية مقتل الصحافي السعودي جمال خاشقجي في قنصلية بلاده في إسطنبول، قبل إحالة القضية إلى الرياض، في قرار قوبل بتنديدات من منظمات حقوقية.
وأفاد نائب مدير قسم الشرق الأوسط في “هيومن رايتس ووتش” مايكل بيج بأنّ إحالة القضية “سيعزّز الاعتقاد السائد لدى السلطات السعودية، كما يبدو، بأنّ بإمكانها ارتكاب عملية قتل والإفلات من العقاب”.
وحُكم بالإعدام على 5 أشخاص في المملكة على خلفية مقتل خاشقجي، لكن في أيلول/سبتمبر 2020، أصدرت محكمة في الرياض أحكاماً نهائية في القضية، قضت بسجن 8 مدانين لفترات تراوح بين 7 و20 سنة، في تراجع عن أحكام الإعدام بعد إجراءات قضائية سريّة
