The Tunisian anti-terrorism police summons Rāšid al-Ġannūšī for an investigation because of the parliamentary session that was held. The MPs are protesting in front of the investigation’s headquarters.

The office of Rāšid al-Ġannūšī, the president of the an-Nahḍa Party and Speaker of the dissolved parliament said on Friday that the anti-terrorist police summoned him for investigation because of the parliamentary session held via the internet this week.

This arrest came after other members of the parliament were also summoned, who supported and took part in the session via the internet this week to challenge the announcement of Sa‘īd about the parliament’s work.

The session caused “rage” by Sa‘īd, who described it as a “failed coup attempt”.

The witnesses said that a number of MPs arrived at the terrorist crimes investigation’s headquarters in Būšūša in the Tunisian capital. Some other MPs gathered to support their colleagues.

It should be mentioned that Sa‘īd on late Thursday said that there will be no legislative elections held within the next three months.

Commenting on the decree dissolving the parliament President of the Free Dustūrī Party ‘Abīr Mūsī said: “There is no other option for Sa‘īd by the text of the constitution. He has to resolve to elections within 3 months”.

The Tunisian General Work Union welcomed the dissolution of the Parliament and said: “There had been no need for the continuation for a legislative assembly, which’s works have been suspended”.

Sa‘īd pointed out that he will form a council to amend the constitution and this shall be presented to the people for a popular referendum in July. After that parliamentary elections will be held in December.
