The Egyptian Presidential Office announces that the Emir of Qatar sent an official invitation to Egyptian President ‘Abd al-Fattāḥ as-Sīsī to visit Doha, and the latter welcomed the invitation.

The spokesman of the Egyptian Presidency in an announcement stated that “President ‘Abd al-Fattāḥ as-Sīsī have greeted Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister for the State of Qatar aš-Šayh Muḥammad ibn ‘Abd ar-Raḥmān Āl Tānī in the presence of Foreign Minister Sāmiḥ aš-Šukrī and the Director of the General Intelligence ‘Abbās Kāmil in addition to Director of the Security Service of the State of Qatar ‘Abd Allah al-Halīfī”.
The statement added that: “the Qatari Foreign Minister has delivered a message from Emir of Qatar aš-Šayh Tamīm ibn Ḥamad Āl Tānī to President as -Sīsī, which contained an invitation to the president to visit Doha and expressing that he is looking forward to strengthening the efforts by the two states to improve the bilateral relations, discuss the regional and international developments and coordinate the stances in these in a way that serves the expectations of the two countries”.
According to the statement the Qatari Foreign Minister “appreciated the strategic and decisive role Egypt plays under the leadership of as-Sīsī protecting the Arab national security and defending the causes of the Arab nation. He also appreciated the efforts by Egypt helping move serving the security, stability, and development all over the region”.
On his own behalf, as-Sīsī asked [him] to deliver his greetings to the Emir of Qatar expressing that “Egypt welcomes the latest developments on the path of Egyptian-Qatari relations”. Thus pointing out that “the expectation is to reach progress in this matter in different fields, which serves the goals and interests for both countries and both people, and also safeguards the security of the Arab region and its stability”.
As-Sīsī confirmed that “Egypt is keen on achieving cooperation, constructivism and supporting Arab solidarity as a strategic model to being its core policy”, within the frame of “mutual respect, common interests, and goodwill, while concentrating on the efforts to reach well-being, peace, and development for the two peoples and joint efforts to over the obstacles present in the Arab nation jeopardizing its national security”.
The statement confirmed that “during the meeting, there has been an understanding to increase the consultations and joint cooperation between Egypt and Qatar, including more mutual visits by high ranking officials in the coming short period of time to strengthen the core of the bilateral relations, but also on the level of the common Arab efforts to achieve progress, development, peace and safeguarding for the Arab national interest”.
The Egyptian presidential office had announced last month that as-Sīsī has received a phone call from the Emir of the State of Qatar, which is the first time since the Gulf rapprochement.
In January the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced that the diplomatic relations were restored with Qatar after more than three years passing since they had been cut.
In June 2017 Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt broke relations with Qatar, while the 4 states have shut their airspace for the Qatari planes.
Yet in the “al-‘Ulā Summit” in January the relations were restored between these states to what was before and the participants in the summit signed a statement including a reconciliation agreement between Qatar and the Gulf states.

الرئاسة المصرية تعلن توجيه أمير قطر دعوةً رسمية إلى الرئّيس المصري عبد الفتاح السيسي إلى زيارة الدوحة، والأخير يرحّب بالدعوة
وجَّه أمير قطر، تميم بن حمد آل ثاني، اليوم الثلاثاء، دعوة رسمية إلى الرئيس المصري عبد الفتاح السيسي إلى زيارة الدوحة
وأعلن المتحدث باسم الرئاسة المصرية، في بيان، أن “الرئيس عبد الفتاح السيسي استقبل الشيخ محمد بن عبد الرحمن آل ثاني، نائب رئيس الوزراء وزير خارجية دولة قطر، بحضور سامح شكري، وزير الخارجية، وعباس كامل، رئيس المخابرات العامة، إلى جانب عبد الله الخليفي رئيس جهاز أمن الدولة القطري
وأضاف البيان أن “وزير الخارجية القطري نقل إلى الرئيس السيسي رسالة من الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني، أمير دولة قطر، تضمنت توجيه الدعوة إلى الرئيس إلى زيارة الدوحة، والإعراب عن التطلع إلى تعزيز التباحث بين البلدين بشأن سبل تطوير العلاقات الثنائية، ومناقشة مستجدات الأوضاع الإقليمية والدولية، وتنسيق المواقف بشأنها، على نحو يخدم تطلُّعات الدولتين
ووفقاً للبيان، فإن وزير الخارجية القطري “ثمّن الدور الاستراتيجي والمحوري والذي تقوم به مصر تحت قيادة السيسي في حماية الأمن القومي العربي والدفاع عن قضايا الأمة العربية، وثمّن أيضاً جهود مصر ومساعيها الدؤوبة في سبيل ترسيخ الأمن والاستقرار والتنمية على الصعيد الإقليمي
من جانبه، طلب السيسي نقل تحياته إلى أمير قطر، معرباً عن “ترحيب مصر بالتطورات الأخيرة في مسار العلاقات المصرية القطرية”، مشيراً إلى “التطلع إلى تحقيق التقدم في هذا الشأن في مختلف المجالات، وبما يخدم الأهداف وامصالح للدولتين والشعبين، والحفاظ على أمن المنطقة العربية واستقرارها
وأكد السيسي “حرص مصر على تحقيق التعاون والبناء ودعم التضامن العربي كنهج استراتيجي راسخ لسياستها”، في إطار من “الاحترام المتبادل والمصلحة المشتركة والنيّات الصادقة، مع تركيز الجهود لتحقيق الخير والسلام والتنمية لشعبي البلدين، والتكاتف لدرء المخاطر عن سائر الأمة العربية وصون أمنها القومي
وأكد البيان أنه “تم التوافق خلال اللقاء على تكثيف التشاور والتنسيق المشترك بين مصر وقطر، بما في ذلك تبادل زيارات كبار المسؤولين خلال الفترة المقبلة، لتعزيز مجمل جوانب العلاقات الثنائية، وعلى مستوى العمل العربي المشترك أيضاً من أجل تحقيق البناء والتنمية والسلام والحفاظ على الأمن القومي العربي
وأعلنت الرئاسة المصرية، الشهر الماضي، أن السيسي تلقّى اتصالاً هاتفياً من أمير دولة قطر، هو الأول منذ المصالحة الخليجية
وفي كانون الثاني/يناير، أعلنت الخارجية المصرية عودة استئناف العلاقات الدبلوماسية بقطر، بعد أكثر من 3 سنوات على انقطاعها
وأعلنت السعودية والإمارات والبحرين ومصر، في حزيران/يونيو 2017، قطع العلاقات بقطر، بينما أغلقت الدول الـ4 مجالها الجوي أمام الطائرات القطرية
لكن “قمة العلا”، في كانون الثاني/يناير، أعادت العلاقات بين هذه الدول إلى سابق عهدها، ووقّع المشاركون في القمة على بيان يتضمن اتفاق المصالحة بين قطر والدول الخليجية
