After Jordan and Syria agreed on returning to operate journeys carrying passengers between Amman and Damascus, the American State Department welcomes this “as long as the matter is connected to trade”.
The American State Department welcomed the announcement by Jordan to relaunch commercial journeys with Syria.
Officials spokesperson of the Department Galina Porter said that the United States welcomes this as long as the matter is connected to trade.
Jordan and Syria agreed that the Royal Jordanian Airlines restarts operating passenger carrying journeys between Amman and Damascus starting from 3 October.
The statement by the Jordanian Prime office said: “Starting from the third of October the Jordanian Kingdom restarts operating journeys carrying passengers between Amman and Damascus and studied the necessary measures to restart operating the joint Syrian-Jordanian free trade zone.
Later on the Ministry of Transportation said in an explanation that “the Royal Jordanian company starting from next Monday will offer land transportation service for its passengers” to Syria and from there [to Amman].
A Syrian-Jordanian agreement was reached about restarting the joint water commission, in order to follow up on executing the agreement signed between the two countries in 1987, to launch a joint committee the soonest possible and to cooperate in the use of water coming from the Yarmūk basin.
The Syrian ministers of water resources, agriculture, electricity and economy arrived to Jordan via the Naṣīb-Ğābir border crossing in order to hold meeting with their Jordanian colleagues wit their aim of discussing the matters of energy, water management and transportation.
The border crossing with Syria counts to be an economic artery, as through that the Jordanian goods are heading to Turkey, Lebanon and Europe, and also Jordan imports Syrian goods and the products of those countries.

بعد اتفاق الأردن وسوريا على العودة إلى تسيير الرحلات لنقل الركاب بين عمّان ودمشق، الخارجية الأميركية ترحّب “ما دام الأمر يتعلّق بالتجارة”.
رحّبت وزارة الخارجية الأميركية بإعلان الأردن استئناف الرحلات التجارية مع سوريا.
وقالت الناطقة باسم الوزارةـ، جالينا بورتر، إن الولايات المتحدة ترحّبُ بذلك ما دام الأمر يتعلّق بالتجارة.
واتفق الأردن وسوريا على عودة شركة الخطوط الجوية الملكيّة الأردنية إلى تسيير رحلاتها لنقل الركاب بين عمّان ودمشق اعتباراً من الثالث من تشرين الأول/أكتوبر المقبل.
وقال بيان رئاسة الوزراء الأردنية: “اعتباراً من الثالث من الشهر المقبل، تعود الملكية الأردنية إلى تسيير رحلاتها لنقل الركاب بين عمّان ودمشق وبحث الإجراءات اللازمة لإعادة عمل المنطقة الحرة الأردنية السورية المشتركة”.
ولاحقاًَ، قالت وزارة النقل، في توضيح، إن “شركة الملكية الاردنية ستقوم اعتباراً من يوم الأحد المقبل بتوفير خدمة النقل البري لمسافريها” إلى سوريا ومنها.
وتمّ التوصل إلى اتفاق أردني سوري على إعادة تفعيل لجنة المياه المشتركة، من أجل متابعة تنفيذ الاتفاقية الموقَّعة بين البلدين في العام 1987، وتفعيل اللجان المشتركة في أقرب وقت، والتعاون لتعظيم الاستفادة من مياه حوض اليرموك.
ووصل وزراء الموارد المائية والزراعة والكهرباء والاقتصاد السوريون إلى الأردن عبر معبر نصيب – جابر الحدودي، من أجل عقد لقاءاتٍ مع نظرائهم الأردنيين بهدف مناقشة ملفات الطاقة والمياه والنقل.
وتُعَدّ الحدود مع سوريا شرياناً مهماً لاقتصاد الأردن، إذ يُصَدّر عبرها بضائعَ أردنية إلى تركيا ولبنان وأوروبا، ويَستَوْرِد بضائعَ سورية ومنتوجات من تلك الدول.
