The Emiri Court in Qatar announces the death of Father Emir Ḥamad ibn Halīfa Āl Tānī.

On Sunday morning the Emiri Court of Qatar announced the death of Father Emir Ḥamad ibn Halīfa Āl Tānī at the age of 74. Thus according to a statement issued by the Qatari Emiri Court.
Who was Ḥamad ibn Halīfa Āl Tānī?
Ḥamad ibn Halīfa Āl Tānī was born in January 1952 in Doha and received his military education ate Sandhurth Military College in the United Kingdom, where he graduated in 1971.
On 31 May 1977 his father appointed him to the Crown Prince of Qatar and the Minister of Defense. On 10 May 1989 he became the President of the Supreme Planning Council. This council was responsible for drafting the social and economic policies of the country.
He took power in June 1995 and during his tenure he issued a permanent constitution for the state and laid down the “Qatar National Vision 2030”.
On 25 June 2013 he announced handing power over to his Crown Prince Tamīm ibn Ḥamad Āl Tānī.

أعلنت الديوان الأميري في قطر، صباح اليوم الأحد، وفاة الأمير الوالد، حمد بن خليفة آل ثاني، عن عمر ناهز 74 عاماً، بحسب ما أعلن الديوان الأميري القطري في بيان.
من هو حمد بن خليفة آل ثاني؟
حمد بن خليفة آل ثاني ولد في كانون الثاني/ يناير 1952 في الدوحة، وتلقى تعليمه العسكري بكلية “ساندهيرست” العسكرية في المملكة المتحدة وتخرج منها سنة 1971.
وفي الـ 31 من أيار/ مايو عام 1977 عُيّن ولياً للعهد في قطر ووزيراً للدفاع، وفي الـ 10 من أيار/ مايو من العام 1989، أصبح رئيساً للمجلس الأعلى للتخطيط، وهو المجلس الذي كان مسؤولاً عـن رسم السياسات الاجتماعية والاقتصادية للبلاد.
تولّى مقاليد الحكم في الـ 27 من حزيران/ يونيو عام 1995، وصدر – خلال حكمه – الدستور الدائم للبلاد، ووُضعت “رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030”.
