Syria mourns its former ambassador to Jordan, who passed away in the Tišrīn military hospital in Damascus.

SANA Syria news agency: “Syria’s former ambassador to Jordan Major General Bahğat Sulaymān has passed away in the Tišrīn military hospital at the age of 72”.
Bahğat Sulaymān, a former Major General in the Syria Army was born in the city of Latakia in 1949 and graduated from the military academy in Ḥimṣ. He gradually rose in the ranks of the army and the armed forces and worked in several leading positions.
Major General Sulaymān took part in the October Liberation War against the Zionist entity in 1973 as a leader of a tank battalion. He also received a doctorate in political economy in 1982 and a doctorate in military sciences in Moscow in 1998.
In 2009 he retired, and he got appointed to be the ambassador in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates and according to the customs of the Syrian Arab Republic he was charged to be a delegated ambassador to Jordan.

وقالت وكالة سانا السورية للانباء : “توفي سفير سوريا السابق لدى الأردن اللواء بهجت سليمان في مشفى تشرين العسكري بدمشق عن عمر ناهز الـ 72 عاماً
بهجت سليمان، لواء سابق في الجيش السوري من مواليد مدينة اللاذقية عام 1949، تخرج من الكلية الحربية في حمص، وتدرج في القيادة التشكيلية العسكرية التابعة للجيش والقوات المسلحة وشغل عدة مناصب قيادية
شارك اللواء سليمان في حرب تشرين التحريرية ضد الكيان الصهيوني عام 1973 كقائد سرية دبابات، وحصل على دكتوراه في الاقتصاد السياسي عام 1982 ودكتوراه في العلوم العسكرية من موسكو عام 1998
أحيل إلى التقاعد عام 2009، وتم تعيينه سفيراً في وزارة الخارجية والمغتربين واعتماده سفيراً مفوضاً وفوق العادة للجمهورية العربية السورية في الأردن
