The indictment
in the case of the coup attempt in Jordan reveals that Prince Ḥamza had “personal ambitions to arrive at power”. Next week shall be the beginning of trail of the two top suspects.
The indictment in the case of the coup in Jordan, in which Prince Ḥamza ibn al-Ḥussayn brother of King ‘Abd Allah is accused that “former Crown Prince had personal ambitions to arrive at the top of power and usurp the throne of the kingdom. He desperately tried to gain the support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to achieve this”.
On 4 April this year, the Jordanian government announced that Prince Ḥamza (41 years old) and other people took part “in vile plans” with the aim of “undermining the security of Jordan and its stability” and arrested 18 people, including the former director of the Royal Court Bāsim ‘Awaḍ Allah and the Jordanian monarch’s envoy to Saudi Arabia aš-Šarīf Ḥasan Ibn Zayd.
According to the indictment comprising of 13 pages, which was made public by official “al-Mamlaka” television channel on its internet site “Prince Ḥamza attempted to fulfill his personal ambitions to come to power in the Jordanian Hashemite Kingdom, thus breaching the Jordanian constitution, which clearly stipulates the way of inheriting the throne”.
The indictment added that Prince Ḥamza “strived to exploit some of the people’s grievances and problems, or all that is going on around Jordan, including the recent effects of the Corona pandemic, so to cause discord against the ruling system and agitate against them, spread rumors and confusion between the sections of the society”.
In the Jordanian capital Amman, next week starts the trial of ‘Awaḍ Allah and Ibn Zayd at the state security court, the main culprits in this case, according to what was reported by the official Jordanian news agency “Petra” based on a source in the court.
Just cause they are found guilty they face a prison sentence of up to 20 years according to their lawyers, as they are facing charges of “agitation against the ruling political system in the kingdom”. Other charges were also formed against them, like “acts against the social integrity and security by danger and causing discord”.
‘Awaḍ Allah holds Saudi citizenship as well, and reports claim him close to Saudi Crown Prince Muḥammad ibn Salmān, while aš-Šarīf Ḥasan Ibn Zayd had worked previously as an envoy of the Jordanian monarch to Saudi Arabia.
The state prosecutor at the state security released 16 arrestees on 28 April in this case, after a number of provincial and tribal personalities petitioned at King ‘Abd Allah during a meeting with him “to release their sons, whom are implicated in this turmoil”.
King ‘Abd Allah II. on 7 April in a message broadcasted by the state television that “a turmoil has befallen” and that “Prince Ḥamza is with his family in his palace under my custody”.
Prince Ḥamza denied his responsibility in any coup attempt and claimed in a message broadcasted by the royal court on 5 April “I put myself in the hand of His Royal Highness the King, confirming that I shall be faithful to the legacy of my fathers and grandfathers a shall walk in their path devoted to their cause, their message and to His Highness the King”.

لائحة الاتهام في قضية محاولة الانقلاب في الأردن تكشف أن الأمير حمزة كان له “طموح شخصي بالوصول إلى سدة الحكم”، فيما تبدأ الأسبوع المقبل محاكمة المتهمين الرئيسيين
كشفت لائحة الاتهام في قضية محاولة الانقلاب في الأردن، التي اتهم فيها الأمير حمزة بن الحسين شقيق الملك عبد الله، أن “ولي العهد السابق كان له طموح شخصي بالوصول إلى سدة الحكم وتولي عرش المملكة، وحاول عبثاً الحصول على دعم المملكة العربية السعودية لتحقيق ذلك
وأعلنت الحكومة الأردنية في 4 نيسان/أبريل الماضي، أن الأمير حمزة (41 عاماً) وأشخاصاً آخرين ضالعون في “مخططات آثمة” هدفها “زعزعة أمن الأردن واستقراره”، وأوقفت 18 شخصاً بينهم رئيس الديوان الملكي الأردني الأسبق باسم عوض الله، ومبعوث العاهل الأردني إلى السعودية الشريف حسن بن زيد
وبحسب لائحة الاتهام المؤلفة من 13 صفحة، والتي نشرها تلفزيون “المملكة” الرسمي على موقعه على الإنترنت، فقد “عقد الأمير حمزة العزم على تحقيق طموحه الشخصي بالوصول إلى الحكم في المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية؛ مخالفاً بذلك أحكام الدستور الأردني الذي رسم بوضوح آلية تولي العرش
وأضافت لائحة الاتهام أن الأمير حمزة “أخذ يسعى إلى استغلال بعض هموم ومشاكل الناس، وأي أحداث تجري على الساحـة الأردنية، ومنها ما خلفته جائحة كورونا مؤخراً، للتشكيك في نهج النظام الحاكم والتحريض عليه، وإشاعة الفتنة والإحباط بين عناصر المجتمع
وتبدأ الأسبوع المقبل في العاصمة عمّان محاكمة عوض الله وبن زيد، الموقوفين الرئيسيين في هذه القضية، أمام محكمة أمن الدولة، وفق ما نقلت وكالة الأنباء الأردنية الرسمية “بترا” عن مصدر في المحكمة
وفي حال إدانتهما، فهما يواجهان عقوبة بالسجن قد تصل الى 20 عاماً، وفق محاميهما، حيث يواجهان تهمة “التحريض على مناهضة نظام الحكم السياسي القائم في المملكة”، كما أسندت اليهما تهمة “القيام بأعمال من شأنها تعريض سلامة المجتمع وأمنه للخطر وإحداث الفتنة
ويحمل عوض الله الجنسية السعودية. وذكرت تقارير أنه مقرّب من ولي العهد السعودي محمد بن سلمان، فيما شغل الشريف حسن بن زيد سابقاً منصب مبعوث العاهل الأردني إلى السعودية
وأفرجت النيابة العامة في أمن الدولة في 28 نيسان/ أبريل الماضي عن 16 موقوفاً في هذه القضية بعد مناشدة عدد من الشخصيات من محافظات وعشائر عدة الملك عبد الله خلال لقاء معه “الصفح عن أبنائهم الذين انقادوا وراء هذه الفتنة
وأكد الملك عبد الله الثاني في السابع من نيسان/أبريل في رسالة بثها التلفزيون الرسمي أن “الفتنة وئدت” وأن “الأمير حمزة مع عائلته في قصره وتحت رعايتي
ونفى الأمير حمزة مسؤوليته عن أي محاولة انقلاب، وقال في رسالةٍ نشرها الديوان الملكي في 5 نيسان/أبريل “أضع نفسي بين يديّ جلالة الملك، مؤكّداً أنّني سأبقى على عهد الآباء والأجداد، وفياً لإرثهم، سائراً على دربهم، مخلصاً لمسيرتهم ورسالتهم ولجلالة الملك
