Jordanian Interior Minister Māzin al-Farrāya says that his country on Monday will fully start to operate the Ğābir border crossing with Syria
Jordanian Interior Minister Māzin al-Farrāya said that by the instructions of Prime Minster Bišr al-Haṣṣawna during his visit to the Ğābir border crossing on 8 July and after conducting overall local arrangements with the Syrian side, starting from Monday morning the Ğābir border crossing will fully start to operate.
The new measures will include cancelling the slip (back to back) transport system for goods and passengers and will allow the trucks to enter the Syrian side and return from there.
The departure for various nationalities will be allowed into Syria without the need for stop previously on the Jordanian side, and in addition to that the foreign passenger vehicles will be allowed to operate between the two countries with an average of 100 vehicles per day.
Also the transit trucks coming from Syria to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be allowed to cross with the condition of registration at the (Tawakkulnā) platform special to the Saudi side proving Corona vaccinations.
It was mentioned several days ago that Jordanian Interior Minister Māzin al-Farrāya during his telephone conversation with his Syrian colleague Muḥammad Hālid ar-Raḥmūn confirmed the necessity to fully restart the operation of the Ğābir border crossing dividing the two countries. This is “in view of what strategic importance the crossing represents, this goes back to the profit and utility it has for Jordan and Syria and their joint interest”, according to his expressions.
The same crossing was reopened in the middle of October 2018, after some 3 years of being closed because of the battles going on in the vicinity. This came in the framework of an agreement between the Jordanian and the Syrian governments, which contains a joint agreement agreed upon by the technical committees of the two countries. Yet the border crossing came to close once again.

وزير الداخليّة الأردني مازن الفرّاية يقول أن بلاده ستبدأ يوم الأحد التشغيل الكامل لمركز حدود جابر مع سوريا.
قال وزير الداخليّة الأردني مازن الفرّاية إنّه ووفقاً لتوجيهات رئيس الوزراء بشر الخصاونة خلال زيارته لمركز حدود جابر في الثامن من تموز/ يوليو الحالي، وبعد إجراء الترتيبات الميدانيّة الكاملة مع الجانب السّوري، سيبدأ اعتباراً من صباح يوم الأحد التشغيل الكامل لمركز حدود جابر.
وستشمل الإجراءات الجديدة إلغاء نظام النقل التّبادلي (back to back) للبضائع والركّاب، والسّماح للحافلات بالعبور إلى الجانب السّوري والعودة منه.
وسيسمح بمغادرة الأشخاص من مختلف الجنسيّات إلى سوريا دون الحاجة إلى موافقة مسبقة من الجانب الأردني، إضافة إلى السمّاح لمركبات السفريات الخارجية بالعمل بين البلدين بمعدل 100 مركبة يوميّاً.
كما سيسمح لحافلات الترانزيت القادمة من سوريا إلى المملكة العربية السعوديّة بالعبور شريطة التسجيل على منصّة (توكّلنا) الخاصّة بالجانب السعودي والمعتمدة لتلقّي مطاعيم كورونا.
يذكر أن منذ أيام، أكَّد وزير الداخلية الأردني، مازن الفرّاية، خلال اتصال هاتفي بنظيره السوري محمد خالد الرحمون، على ضرورة إعادة التشغيل الكامل لمركز جابر الحدودي الفاصل بين البلدين، وذلك “نظراً لما يمثّله المركز من أهمية استراتيجية تعود بالنفع والفائدة على الأردن وسوريا ومصالحهما المشتركة” على حد تعبيره.
وكان المعبر ذاته أعيد افتتاحه، منتصف تشرين الأول/ أكتوبر 2018، بعد نحو 3 سنوات من الإغلاق بسبب المعارك التي دارت قربه، في إطار اتفاق بين الحكومتين السورية والأردنية على ذلك، والذي تلى اتفاقاً مشتركاً توصلت إليه اللجان الفنية في البلدين، قبل أن يتم إغلاق المعبر من جديد.
