The official spokesman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament confirms that the negotiations with Saudi Arabia reached a point to restore the relations to a good level.
The official spokesman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Abū l-Faẓl ‘Umū’ī confirms that the negotiations with Saudi Arabia reached a point to restore the relations to a good level.
‘Umū’ī said in a statement to the Iranian “Mehr” news agency on Saturday that: “the negotiations with Saudi Arabia reached a point to restore the relations to a good level”.
‘Umū’ī hopes to “hold diplomatic negotiations between the two states soon, this matter can be the beginning for the restoration of political relations”.
The Iranian spokesman said that “even though Iran might criticize Saudi Arabia’s positions on regional and international matters, this does not contradict having bilateral relations to follow up on these matters and exchange views on various matters”.
‘Umū’ī explained that “building bilateral relations, strengthening them and activating them is an important matter that requires work and time. We cannot assume to achieve these aims immediately, yet in all matters, our basic efforts concentrate on safeguarding the national interests and securing them”.
Official spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Nāṣer Kan‘ānī days ago expressed that his county believes that Saudi Arabia will relaunch its relations with Iran based on mutual interest and on what was hammered out in the agreement during the negotiations between the two states. In this context, he welcomed that Kuwait has sent an ambassador to Tehran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Ḥosseyn Amīr ‘Abdollahiyān has already confirmed previously that his country welcomes the stance of Saudi Arabia to transport the dialogue between themselves to a level of restoring the relations that have been cut for years, or “from a security level to a political one”.
According to newspaper reports Iran and Saudi Arabia held 5 rounds of dialogue in Baghdad starting last year, while the last session was held in April, on which officials of the Iranian Supreme National Security Committee’s Board and the presidency of the Saudi Intelligence.
Saudi Arabia had cut its relations with Iran in January 2016 after its embassy in Tehran and its consulate in Mashhad suffered atrocities by protesters because Riyadh execute opposition Saudi religious figure Nimr an-Nimr.

أكد المتحدث باسم لجنة الأمن القومي والسياسة الخارجية في البرلمان الإيراني، أبو الفضل عموئي، أنّ المحادثات مع السعودية وصلت إلى مرحلة إعادة العلاقات إلى المستوى الجيد
وقال عموئي، في تصريحات لوكالة “مهر” الإيرانية، اليوم السبت: “وصلت المحادثات مع السعودية إلى إعادة العلاقات إلى المستوى الجيد
وأمل عموئي “إجراء محادثات دبلوماسية بين البلدين قريباً، إذ من شأن ذلك أن يكون مقدمة لإحياء العلاقات السياسية
وقال المتحدث الإيراني “مع أنّ إيران قد تنتقد مواقف السعودية في القضايا الإقليمية والدولية، إلا أن هذا لا ينفي وجود علاقة ثنائية لمتابعة القضايا وتبادل الآراء في مختلف القضايا
وأوضح عموئي أنّ “بناء العلاقات الثنائية وتقويتها وتنشيطها مسألة مهمة تتطلّب العمل والوقت، ولا ينبغي أن نتوقع تحقيق هذه الأهداف على الفور، ولكن في جميع القضايا، ينصب تركيزنا الأساسي في الحفاظ على المصالح الوطنية وتأمينها
وأعرب الناطق باسم الخارجية الإيرانية، ناصر كنعاني، منذ أيام، عن توقّع بلاده أن تستأنف السعودية علاقاتها بإيران بناءً على المصالح المشتركة وما جرى التوصل إليه من اتفاقيات خلال المفاوضات بين البلدين، وأشاد بهذا الصدد بإرسال الكويت سفيراً إلى طهران.
وكان وزير الخارجية الإيراني، حسين أمير عبد اللهيان، قد أكد في وقتٍ سابق أنّ بلاده تبلغت موافقة السعودية على انتقال الحوار بينهما، إلى مستوى إعادة العلاقات المقطوعة منذ أعوام، أي “من المستوى الأمني إلى السياسي”.
وأجرت إيران والسعودية 5 جولات من الحوار في بغداد، بدءاً من العام الماضي، حيث أقيمت الجولة الأخيرة في شهر نيسان/أبريل الماضي، حضرها مسؤولون في أمانة المجلس الأعلى للأمن القومي الإيراني، ورئاسة الاستخبارات السعودية، وفق تقارير صحافية.
وكانت السعودية قد قطعت علاقاتها بإيران في كانون الثاني/يناير عام 2016، بعد تعرض سفارتها في طهران وقنصليتها في مشهد لاعتداء محتجين على إعدام الرياض رجل الدين السعودي المعارض نمر النمر
