The Algerian President reaffirms the firm position of his country about the matter of Western Sahara, by the consideration that the matter is “a matter of colonialism”. The Polisario Front considers the decision of the Moroccan Parliament to extend the legal authority of Moroccan Kingdom to include the maritime territory of Western Sahara that “it will not have any legal effect”.
The President of the Republic of Algeria, ‘Abd al-Mağīd Tabbūn today, Thursday, reaffirmed once again the firm position of Algeria about the Saharan matter.
Tabbūn said in an interview done with a group of media personal from the national public media: We said it and we repeat, no matter how much cursing and fury it causes that the matter of Western Sahara is a matter of closing down colonialism”.
From its own side the “Polisario” Front saw that the two laws, which the Moroccan Parliament drafted to extend the legal authority of the kingdom to include the maritime territory os Western Sahara “will not have any legal effect”.
An official in the “Polisario” Muḥammad Haddād said that “the Front, which demanded independence for Western Sahara under the control of Morocco considers the two laws issued by Morocco in the matter of the maritime territory of Western Sahara are nothing more than dust in the eye to mislead the Moroccan public, and will not have any legal effect”, according to the Saharawī News Agency.
Haddād clarified that “this is just a public facade, it has not international legal value whatsoever”. Confirming that “The Polisario will study the necessary steps it has to take on the field of legal measures to take in the court of the EU”.
He continued “If the situation calls for it, the Polisario will not hesitate to take the matter to International Court of Maritime Affairs to announce these two laws as void and cancelled”.
The Moroccan Parliament yesterday, Wednesday accepted two laws to extend the legal authority of the kingdom to include the maritime territory of Western Sahara, over which it has a dispute with the “Polisario Front”.
Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affaires and Cooperation Nāṣir Būrīṭa announced a little before the acceptance of the two laws, according to “France Press” said: “we had to extend the national legal system to the maritime fields”, adding “the point of this expansion is to draw precisely the maritime fields under the sovereignty of the Moroccan Kingdom”.
The two laws determine the maritime territory, which falls under the Moroccan sovereignty both in the Mediterranean and in the Atlantic Ocean, including waters of the plains of Western Sahara under dispute with the Polisario, all until the border with Mauritania.
Morocco offers an autonomy to the provinces in Western Sahara as a solution to the dispute about Western Sahara, which has an area of 266 thousand square kilometers, and which saw an armed struggle over it until a ceasefire came to effect in 1991.
The Polisario Front supported by Algeria refuses Morocco’s initiative and holds on to its choice of referendum for independence from Morocco. Morocco controls 80% of the lands of the Sahara, after the Spanish colonialism withdrew from there in 1975.
For decades the U.N. took efforts to find an acceptable political solution to end the conflict.

وقال تبون، في مقابلة صحفية أجراها مع مجموعة من مسؤولي الوسائل الإعلامية الوطنية العمومية: “قلنا وسنكرر مهما بلغ الشتم والضغط، أن قضية الصحراء الغربية هي قضية تصفية استعمار
جبهة “البوليساريو”، رأت من جهتها أن القانونين اللذين أقرهما البرلمان المغربي لتوسعة السلطة القانونية للمملكة لتشمل المجال البحري للصحراء الغربية، “لن يكون لهما أي أثر قانوني
وقال المسؤول في “البوليساريو” محمد خداد، إن “الجبهة التي تطالب باستقلال الصحراء الغربية الخاضعة لسيطرة المغرب، تعتبر أن القانونين اللذين أصدرهما المغرب بشأن المجال البحري للصحراء الغربية ليسا سوى ذرّ للرماد في العيون لخداع الرأي العام المغربي، ولن يكون لهما أي أثر قانوني”، بحسب وكالة الأنباء الصحراوية
وأضاف خداد “هذه مجرد دعاية ليست لها أي قيمة قانونية دولياً”، مؤكداً أن “البوليساريو ستدرس الخطوات الواجب اتخاذها في إطار الإجراءات القانونية التي تتخذها أمام محكمة الاتحاد الأوروبي
وتابع، “إذا لزم الأمر، فإن البوليساريو لن تتردد في إحالة الأمر إلى المحكمة الدولية لقانون البحار لإعلان هذين القانونين باطلين ولاغيين
وصادق البرلمان المغربي أمس الأربعاء، على قانونين يوسعان سلطة المملكة القانونية لتشمل المجال البحري للصحراء الغربية، التي يوجد نزاع بشأنها مع “جبهة البوليساريو
وأعلن وزير الشؤون الخارجية والتعاون المغربي ناصر بوريطة قبيل المصادقة على النصين وفقاً لوكالة “فرانس برس”: “كان علينا تحيين المنظومة القانونية الوطنية للمجالات البحرية”، مضيفاً أن “من شأن هذا التحيين أن يتيح تحديداً دقيقاً للمجالات البحرية الواقعة تحت سيادة المملكة المغربية
ويحدد القانونان المجال البحري، الذي يقع تحت السيادة المغربية على واجهتي البحر الأبيض المتوسط والمحيط الأطلسي، بما في ذلك مياه سواحل الصحراء الغربية المتنازع عليها مع جبهة بوليساريو، حتى الحدود مع موريتانيا
ويقترح المغرب حكماً ذاتياً لمحافظات الصحراء كحل للنزاع حول الصحراء الغربية التي تمتد على مساحة 266 ألف كلم مربع، شهدت نزاعاً مسلّحاً حتّى تمّ وقف إطلاق النّار العام 1991
فيما ترفض جبهة البوليساريو المدعومة من الجزائر مقترح المغرب وتتمسك بخيار الاستفتاء للاستقلال عن المغرب، ويسيطر المغرب على 80% من أراضي الصحراء، بعد انسحاب الاستعمار الإسباني منها عام 1975
وترعى الأمم المتحدة منذ عقود جهوداً لإيجاد حل سياسي متوافق عليه ينهي هذا النزاع
