The “New York Times” newspaper reported on the President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council saying that the step of freezing the normalization with “Israel” shall be taken by Sudan, unless the Congress agrees to grant “immunity to the lawsuit about the September 11 explosions.
The “New York Times” newspaper revealed that the President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council ‘Abd al-Fattāḥ al-Burhān warned in a telephone conversation with American State Secretary Mike Pompeo that Khartoum “will freeze the normalization with Tel Aviv”.
The newspaper added about al-Burhān that “this step will be taken by Sudan, unless the Congress grants immunity from the lawsuit about the September 11 explosions”.
According to the newspaper Pompeo promised to al-Burhān that “the Congress will agree in the upcoming weeks to the law of immunity and that the American President plans to hold an official celebration for signing the agreement in the White House”.
It should be remembered that last month the United States decided to renew U.N. sanctions imposed upon Sudan as a result of the conflict in Dārfūr province.
American President Donald Trump in an announcement of his said: “despite the recent positive developments the crisis that flared up because of the behavior and policies of the Sudanese government leading up to the announcement of national emergency on 3 November 1997… has not yet been resolved”.
He added: “These behaviors and policies still represent a special and imminent danger to the American national security and foreign policy. Therefore I decided that it is necessary to extend the state of national emergency”.
On his own term, American State Secretary Mike Pompeo viewed that this step will not affect negatively the American-Sudanese relations.
On 23 October this year, Khartoum and Washington reached an agreement to take Sudan off from the list of countries supporting terror in exchange for paying $335 million as compensation for the families of the victims of the attacks against the U.S.S. Coal destroyer at the coast of Yemen in 2000 and for the families of the victims in the blasts of the two American embassies in Nairobi and Dar as-Salam in 1998.
Trump also announced in October this year that Sudan and “Israel” reached an agreement for normalizing the relations between the two.

كشفت صحيفة “نيويورك تايمز” أن رئيس مجلس السيادة السوداني عبد الفتاح البرهان حذر في اتصال هاتفي مع وزير الخارجية الأميركي مايك بومبيو من أن الخرطوم “ستجمد التطبيع مع تل أبيب
وأضافت الصحيفة نقلاً عن البرهان أن “هذه الخطوة سيتخذها السودان إذا لم يوافق الكونغرس على منحه حصانة من الدعاوى القضائية في تفجيرات 11 أيلول/سبتمبر
ووفق الصحيفة فإن بومبيو وعد البرهان بأن “الكونغرس سيوافق في الأسابيع المقبلة على قانون الحصانة وأن الرئيس الأميركي يخطط لإقامة حفل رسمي لتوقيع الاتفاق في البيت الأبيض
ويذكر أن الشهر الماضي، قررت الولايات المتحدة تمديد عقوبات الأمم المتحدة المفروضة على السودان على خلفية الصراع في إقليم دارفور
وقال الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب في بيان له “على الرغم من التطورات الإيجابية الأخيرة، إلا أن الأزمة التي نشبت نتيجة تصرفات وسياسات الحكومة السودانية وأدت إلى إعلان حالة الطوارئ الوطنية في 3 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 1997… لم يتم حلها بعد
وأضاف أن “هذه التصرفات والسياسات لا تزال تمثل تهديداً خاصاً وطارئاً للأمن القومي والسياسة الخارجية الأميركية. ولذلك قررت أنه من الضروري تمديد حالة الطوارئ الوطنية
من جهته، رأى وزير الخارجية الأميركي مايك بومبيو، أن هذه الخطوة لن تؤثر سلباً على العلاقات الأميركية السودانية
وفي 23 تشرين الأول/ أكتوبر الماضي، توصلت الخرطوم وواشنطن لاتفاق يقضي بإزالة السودان من قائمة الدول الراعية للإرهاب مقابل دفع 335 مليون دولار كتعويضات لأسر ضحايا الهجوم على المدمرة كول في سواحل اليمن عام 2000، وأُسر ضحايا تفجير السفارتين الأميركيتين في نيروبي ودار السلام عام 1998
كما أعلن ترامب في تشرين الأول/أكتوبر الماضي عن توصل السودان و”إسرائيل” لاتفاق من أجل تطبيع العلاقات بينهما
