Türkiye and Iraq closed the security summit held in Baghdad and agreed on forming a joint committee to work on several fields with combating terrorism at the top of the list.

Türkiye and Iraq decided to form a permanent committee on the fields of security and development within the enhancing relations between the two states. The joint committees are tasked with the fields of combating terrorism, trade, agriculture, energy, water management, healthcare, and transportation.
This came at the closing session of the Turkish-Iraqi security summit that had started on Thursday in Baghdad and during the meeting it was decided to increase the work on a memorandum of understanding in order to “find structural framework on various sides of relations between the two counties, and thus set up a mechanism of systematic contacts”.
The two sides agreed on working together in a coordinated fashion and set up a strategic framework of relations. They confirmed the principles of consultations about the necessary steps to be taken against the organization and the spread that is targeting Türkiye from Iraqi territories.
They always underlined the importance of both sides dedicated to the unity of Iraq, to its sovereignty and territorial integrity. They both pointed out that the terrorist PKK Organization forms a security threat to Türkiye and Iraq, and also that “its presence in the Iraqi territories represents a breach of the Iraqi Constitution”.
The two sides exchanged views about the threats that are witnessed in the region, especially the genocide Gaza is facing by the Israeli aggression against it, confirming support for the Palestinian cause.
The meeting was attended on the Iraqi side by the Foreign Minister, the Defense Minister, the Secretary of the National Security Ministry, the President of the Popular Mobilization Organization, the Deputy Director of the Intelligence Services, and the Interior Minister of Iraqi Kurdistan’s government, and on the Turkish side by Foreign Minister, the Defense Minister, the Director of the Intelligence Services and the Deputy Minister of Interior.
The meeting counts to be a continuation of the talks that were held in Ankara on 19 December 2023. Then the two sides discussed the common position they take on facing the regional developments and the various threats in the bilateral fields.
The meeting ended with an agreement on Ankara and Baghdad taking efforts to guarantee the success of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Iraq after Ramadan, expressing their hopes that the visit will mean “a step forward in the bilateral relations”. They also agreed on “continued negotiations in a structured uninterrupted fashion within the aforementioned mechanism”.

تركيا والعراق يختتمان القمة الأمنية المنعقدة في بغداد ويتفقان على تشكيل لجان. مشتركة للعمل في مجالات عدة، على رأسها مكافحة الإرهاب.

قرّرت كلّ من تركيا والعراق تشكيل لجان دائمة بمجالات أمنية وتنموية في إطار تعزيز العلاقات. بين البلدين، وتشمل اللجان المشتركة مجالات مكافحة الإرهاب والتجارة والزراعة والطاقة والمياه والصحة والنقل.
وجاء ذلك في ختام القمة الأمنية التركية – العراقية التي انعقدت أمس الخميس في بغداد، وتقرر خلال. الاجتماع تكثيف العمل على مذكرة تفاهم من أجل “إيجاد الإطار الهيكلي في مختلف أوجه العلاقات بين. البلدين، وبالتالي إنشاء آليات اتصال منتظمة”.
واتفق الجانبان على العمل بطريقة منسقة وإنشاء إطار استراتيجي للعلاقات، وأكدا مبدأ التشاور بخصوص. الإجراءات الواجب اتخاذها ضد التنظيمات وامتداداتها التي تستهدف تركيا عبر الأراضي العراقية.
كما شدّدا على الأهمية التي يوليها الطرفان لوحدة العراق السياسية وسيادته وسلامة أراضيه، مشيرين إلى. أنّ تنظيم “بي كي كي” الإرهابي يشكل تهديداً أمنياً لتركيا والعراق، إضافة إلى “أن وجوده على الأراضي. العراقية يشكل انتهاكاً للدستور العراقي”.
وتبادل الطرفان وجهات النظر في التحديات التي تشهدها المنطقة خاصة الإبادة الجماعية. التي تتعرّض لها غزة في العدوان الإسرائيلي عليها، مؤكدين دعم القضية الفلسطينية.
وضمّ الاجتماع من الجانب العراقي وزيري الخارجية والدفاع، ووكيل وزارة الأمن الوطني، ورئيس هيئة. الحشد الشعبي، ونائب مدير وكالة المخابرات، ووزير الداخلية في حكومة إقليم كردستان، ومن الجانب التركي وزيري الخارجية والدفاع. ورئيس جهاز الاستخبارات ونائب وزير الداخلية.
ويُعدّ الاجتماع استمراراً للمحادثات التي جرت في أنقرة بتاريخ 19 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2023، وناقش. حينها الطرفان المواقف المشتركة التي سيتم تبنيها في مواجهة التطورات الإقليمية ومختلف التحديات في المجالات الثنائية.
