Egyptian Foreign Minister Sāmiḥ aš-Šukrī held a telephone conversation with the U.N. Special Envoy to Syria reassuring the return of Syria to its regional and international role. This step raised interest by the Syrians and Syria’s press.

The Syrian al-Binā’ newspaper commented on this matter and said that presented its steadfastness and its victories, and the firm standing of its allies gave a rare example what a national state can achieve. And it planned without waiting for support from those are in the targeting circle, who are waging war with them instead of them, especially between the Arabs, primarily Egypt. Egypt kept up the warmth and depth of its relations with Syria, and it waits for the appropriate moment o reveal this relationship by steps, which transform the Egyptian calculations for its alliances with Riyadh in one hand and with Washington on the other.
The newspaper pointed out the developments, which were witnessed in the Emirati relations with Syrian, which presented a phone call by Crown Prince Sheikh Muḥammad ibn Zāyid to Syrian President Baššār al-Asad signaling that much of the sanctions Egypt awaits to be lifted shall soon cease to exit, without meaning that this is an American or Saudi order. We don’t believe that the Emirates received such a thing, nor that Egypt would have awaited that. Much rather it seems that the reservations and its ways have changed by the rhythm of what happens in Syrian firstly and in the world secondly. And what has become the priority of the states including Saudi Arabia and America thirdly. In this sense, a way was opened to reveal what was long-awaited to be revealed.
The newspaper believed that the Egyptian stance expressed by the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sāmiḥ aš-Šukrī about the relations with Syria during his conversation with the U.N. Special Envoy to Syria by its clear wording “return of Syria to its regional and global role” holds many dimensions and meanings, which surmount the Egyptian stance on its own. So much so that it points to what Egypt has to help fulfill its declared aims.

اجرى وزير الخارجية المصري سامح شكري اتصالا مع المبعوث الأممي الخاص بسوريا مؤكدا على عودة سوريا إلى دورها في الساحتين الإقليمية والدولية، هذا الموقف اثار اهتمام السوريين والصحافة لديها
وعلقت صحيفة البناء السورية حول هذا الموضوع وقالت ان سوريا قدّمت بصمودها وانتصاراتها، ومواقف حلفائها الثابتة نموذجاً نادراً لما تستطيعه الدولة الوطنية، وتخطت دون أن تنتظر دعماً من الذين يقعون في دائرة استهداف الذين تخوض الحرب معهم بالنيابة عنهم، خصوصاً بين العرب، وأخصّهم مصر، وبقيت مصر تحفظ ود وحرارة العلاقة مع سوريا، وهي تترقب اللحظة المناسبة لتظهير هذه العلاقة بمواقف، كانت تحول دونها حسابات مصرية لتحالفات طرفها الأول في الرياض وطرفها الثاني في واشنطن
واشارت الصحيفة الى التطورات التي لحقت بالعلاقة الإماراتية بسوريا والتي توّجها اتصال ولي العهد الشيخ محمد بن زايد بالرئيس بشار الأسد مؤشراً على زوال الكثير من العقبات التي تنتظر مصر زوالها، من دون أن يعني ذلك إيعازاً أميركياً أو سعودياً، لا نعتقد أن الإمارات تلقت مثله أو أن مصر تنتظره، بمقدار ما بدا أن حجم التحفظات وطريقتها يتغيران على إيقاع ما يجري في سورية أولاً وفي العالم ثانياً، وما صارت عليه أولويات الدول بما فيها السعودية وأميركا ثالثاً، بصورة فتحت الطريق لتظهير ما كان منتظراً تظهيره
واعتبرت الصحيفة ان الموقف المصريّ الذي عبر عنه وزير الخارجية المصرية سامح شكري حول العلاقة بسوريا خلال اتصاله بالمبعوث الأممي الخاص بسوريا والإعلان عن نص واضح عن “عودة سوريا إلى دورها في الساحتين الإقليمية والدولية”؛ يحمل الكثير من الأبعاد والمعاني التي تتخطى التعبير عن موقف مصر وحدها، بقدر ما يشير إلى ما لدى مصر من معطيات تتيح تحقيق الهدف المعلن عنه
