The Sudanese Foreign Ministry comments on the announcement of the White House about the renewed state of emergency against Sudan. American State Secretary Mike Pompeo says that the prolongation of the sanctions on Sudan by his country “will not have a negative effect on the relations”.
Today, on Monday the United States ave decided to prolong the U.N. sanctions imposed on Sudan as a result of the conflict in the Dārfūr region.
American President Donald Trump said in his announcement: “In spite of the latest positive development the crisis, which flared up in the result of the behavior and the policies of the Sudanese government and lead to the announcement of a state of national emergency on 3 November 1997… is still not solved”.
He added: “these policies and behaviors still represent a special and imminent danger to the American national security and the foreign policy. Therefore I decided that it is important to prolong the state of national emergency”.
American State Secretary Mike Pompeo viewed that this step will not affect the American-Sudanese relations negatively.
Pompeo said that: “By appreciating the important steps taken by the Sudanese government for peace in the conflict-stricken regions of Sudan the Unites States is committed to work together with the Sudanese government and our international partners to outline the conditions, which might in the nearest opportunity lead to lifting of the still pending sanctions related to the Dārfūr conflict”.
In this context, Pompeo confirmed: “We have indeed started negotiations in the United Nations to take this aim into consideration”.
He also stressed that this step “does not affect in any ways that decision and the sanctions about the lifting of Sudan from the list of countries supporting terrorism”.
He pointed out that: “The United States is mindful about the important positive developments, which were achieved by the transitional government revitalizing the human rights”.
Pompeo added that: “We value its efforts to make peace in Dārfūr and another conflict-stricken region in Sudan”, according to his expression. Thus stressing that: “Washington is interested to build strategic partnership with Sudan”.
Trump announced to renew the state of emergency against Sudan, about which the Sudanese Foreign Ministry reacted saying: “This renewal has no effect on the current steps to lift the name of Sudan from the list of countries supporting terrorism”.
The Ministry explained that: “the renewal of the decision in question is a routine step taken in its right time, and that is connected to the fact that Sudan is on the list. It is expected that along with all legislatures approved against Sudan during the last years these will be immediately lifted after the completion of the currently ongoing steps to end this designation and abolish all laws about this”.
It should be mentioned that on 23 October this year Khartoum and Washington reached an agreement stating to raise Sudan from the list of countries supporting terrorism in exchange of paying $335 million as compensation for the families of the victims of the attack on the destroyer Coal at the coast of Yemen in 2000, and to the families of the victims of the blasts against the two American embassies in Nairobi and Dar as-Salam in 1998.
Trump also announced this October that Sudan and “Israel” reached an agreement in order to normalize the relations between them.

وزارة الخارجية السودانية تعلق على إعلان البيت الأبيض، عن تجديد حالة الطوارئ ضد السودان، ووزير الخارجية الأميركي مايك بومبيو، يقول إنّ تمديد بلاده العقوبات على السودان “لن يؤثر سلباً على العلاقات
قررت الولايات المتحدة، اليوم الاثنين، تمديد عقوبات الأمم المتحدة المفروضة على السودان على خلفية الصراع في إقليم دارفور
وقال الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب في بيان له “على الرغم من التطورات الإيجابية الأخيرة، إلا أن الأزمة التي نشبت نتيجة تصرفات وسياسات الحكومة السودانية وأدت إلى إعلان حالة الطوارئ الوطنية في 3 تشرين الثاني/ نوفمبر 1997… لم يتم حلها بعد
وأضاف أن “هذه التصرفات والسياسات لا تزال تمثل تهديداً خاصاً وطارئاً للأمن القومي والسياسة الخارجية الأميركية. ولذلك قررت أنه من الضروري تمديد حالة الطوارئ الوطنية
ورأى وزير الخارجية الأميركي مايك بومبيو، أن هذه الخطوة لن تؤثر سلباً على العلاقات الأميركية السودانية
وقال بومبيو إنه “تقديراً للخطوات الهامة التي اتخذتها الحكومة السودانية نحو السلام في مناطق الصراع في السودان، فإن الولايات المتحدة ملتزمة بالعمل مع الحكومة السودانية وشركائنا الدوليين لتحديد الظروف التي قد تؤدي إلى رفع العقوبات المتعلقة بنزاع دارفور في أقرب فرصة
في هذا الإطار، أكد بومبيو أنه “لقد بدأنا بالفعل مشاورات في الأمم المتحدة مع وضع هذا الهدف في الاعتبار
كما شدد على أن هذه الخطوة “لا تؤثر بأي شكل على القرار والعمليات حول رفع السودان من قائمة الدول الراعية للإرهاب
وأشار إلى أنّ “الولايات المتحدة تدرك التطورات الإيجابية الهامة التي حققتها الحكومة الانتقالية في النهوض بحقوق الإنسان
وأضاف بومبيو أنه “نثني على جهودها لإحلال السلام في دارفور ومناطق الصراع الأخرى في السودان” على حد تعبيره، مشدداً على أن “واشنطن مهتمة ببناء شراكة استراتيجية مع السودان
وكان ترامب أعلن عن تجديد حالة الطوارئ ضد السودان، وهو ما علقت عليه وزارة الخارجية السودانية بقولها إنه “لا أثر لهذا التجديد على الخطوات الجارية حالياً لرفع اسم السودان من قائمة الدول الراعية للإرهاب
وأوضحت الوزارة أن “تجديد القرار المعني هو إجراء روتيني يتم متى استحق وقته، وهو مرتبط بوجود السودان فى القائمة، وينتظر أن يتم إلغاؤه مباشرة مع القوانين التي شرعت ضد السودان طوال السنوات الماضية، بعد استكمال الإجراءات الجارية لإنهاء التصنيف والغاء كافة القوانين المتصلة به
يذكر أنه في 23 تشرين الأول/ أكتوبر الماضي، توصلت الخرطوم وواشنطن لاتفاق يقضي بإزالة السودان من قائمة الدول الراعية للإرهاب مقابل دفع 335 مليون دولار كتعويضات لأسر ضحايا الهجوم على المدمرة كول في سواحل اليمن عام 2000، وأُسر ضحايا تفجير السفارتين الأميركيتين في نيروبي ودار السلام عام 1998
كما أعلن ترامب في تشرين الأول/ أكتوبر الماضي عن توصل السودان و”إسرائيل” لاتفاق من أجل تطبيع العلاقات بينهما
