The Libyan Ministry of Interior announces closing the “Ra’s Ğadīr” border crossing with Tunisia after armed men attacked the crossing, saying that this aims to prevent the breaches and excesses and the crossing will be reopened under the legal authority of the state.

The Libyan Ministry of Interior of the Libyan Unity Government on Tuesday announced closing the “Ra’s Ğadīr” border crossing with Tunisia after armed groups attacked the security forces present there.

In its statement the Ministry of Interior said: “closing the border crossing came after the attack on the crossing point to prevent the security breaches and excesses and to rearrange the crossing to work once again according to the security arrangements, under the legal authority of the state”.

The Interior Ministry’s statement added: “the services that were tasked with securing the crossing were there to prevent smuggling, fight against crime and security breaches at the crossing, so it would work in a regular order without complications, and also to ease the burdens of the travelers”.

On its behalf the official Tunisian Taṭāwīn radio in the late hours of Monday said that the Ra’s Ğadīr border crossing with Libya was closed down for security reasons after armed clashes broke out on the Libyan side. Thus according to what the radio stated.

The video footages circled in the social media platforms show firing close to the border crossing, while also there is a high number of burned cars at the location.

The Libyan 24 Hours newspaper reported that “local armed men raided the Ra’s Ğadīr border crossing with Tunisia on Monday night and clashed with troops of the Ministry of Interior”.

The newspaper confirmed that the armed men “took over all vehicles and equipment of the law enforcement forces tasked by the government after most troops ran away to an area adjacent to the Tunisian border”.

It should be remembered that the official Tunisian and Libyan sides in 2016 had agreed on opening the “Ra’s Ğadīr border crossing” after it had been closed down for two weeks by the Libyan authorities.

أعلنت وزارة الداخلية الليبية في حكومة الوحدة الوطنية، اليوم الثلاثاء، إغلاق معبر. “رأس جدير” الحدودي مع تونس، بعد هجوم مجموعات مسلحة على القوى الأمنية المتواجدة فيه.

وقالت الداخلية الليبية في بيانها: “الإقفال للمنفذ الحدودي جاء بعد الهجوم على المنفذ لمنع. التجاوزات والخروقات الأمنية، ولإعادة المنفذ إلى العمل مجدداً وفق الترتيبات الأمنية، تحت السلطة الشرعية للدولة”.

وأضاف بيان الداخلية الليبية: “الأجهزة التي تم تكليفها بتأمين المنفذ، كانت لمنع التهريب ومكافحة. الجريمة والتجاوزات الأمنية بالمنفذ، لكي يسير العمل بشكل انسيابي وبدون عرقلة، وللرفع من معاناة المسافرين

من جهتها، قالت إذاعة “تطاوين” التونسية الرسمية، في وقت متأخر من يوم أمس الاثنين، إنها أغلقت. مؤقتاً معبر “رأس جدير” الحدودي مع ليبيا، لأسباب أمنية، بعد نشوب اشتباكات مسلحة على الجانب الليبي، وفق ما ذكرت الإذاعة.

وأظهرت مقاطع مصورة تم تداولها عبر منصات التواصل الاجتماعي إطلاق نار قرب المنفذ الحدودي، فضلاً. عن وجود عددٍ من السيارات المحترقة في المكان

وكانت صحيفة “الساعة 24” الليبية أفادت بأن “مسلحين محليين اقتحموا معبر رأس جدير الحدودي. مع تونس، مساء أمس الاثنين، واشتبكوا مع عناصر تابعة لوزارة الداخلية”.

وأكدت الصحيفة أن المسلحين “استولوا على كل آليات وعتاد قوة إنفاذ القانون المكلفة من الحكومة، بعد فرار. أغلب عناصرها إلى المنطقة المحايدة مع الحدود التونسية”.

يذكر أن جهات رسمية تونسية وليبية اتفقت، في عام 2016، على إعادة فتح معبر “رأس جدير الحدودي” بعد إغلاق. دام مدة أسبوعين من جانب السلطات الليبية
